Hello all, I just bought a 2000 4runner SR5 with 204K miles on it. First, I bought with the knowledge that the tranny isn't good. Here are some of the symptoms (or signs?):






1. When in reverse, it doesn't engage at all. It acts as if it's in park.




2. When it's in neutral you can actually drive it forward like it's in drive.
3. The tranny fluid is pretty dark like it's burnt.




I planned on buyer another transmission but I thought to seek some advice first. Any thoughts?

 

Adjust the shift linkage.

Thanks. I thought of that also and I will try that first and hopefully something good comes from it

No change. I just finally got to it and there was no change. I think I will have to get it replaced as I initially thought
