1st gen mileage?
Hey all, I've had my 85 4wd xtra cab for about a month now and I am very surprised at my mileage (or lack of, i suppose). For a motor that puts out so little power, I am surprised at how quickly it burns through the gas. It has the 5 speed manual, and I don't beat on it, generally shifting around 2500 or so (even less if I'm just putting around) but I am definately not lugging the engine... Looks like I am getting around 16-17mpg. That can't be right... my 85 mustang gt gets around that!
It is the carbed 22r and it is stock, it was rebuilt about 17,000 miles ago by the previous owner (have all reciepts). The only difference is I have 30" BFG AT KO's instead of the stock 235/75/15s. Any ideas? Or is that right? What are you getting with your first gen?

20 mpg highway on a rebuilt 22re. About 18 city. Am on 30" BFG AT/KO's also. I upshift so it starts the bottom of each gear at 2000 RPM, shift again at around 3000+. Sounds like you may need a tune up or some other attention. When was the engine rebuilt and by who?

hmmm 18mpg huh
well---my 1st gen has 31's and the stage 1 trd cam (stock gears) I actually get like 30mpg on the highway, not sure about the city. I usually drive about 65 ( wont go much faster than that anyways ) so that might have something to do with it. I had a lowered standard cab 90' that got almost 40mpg. I would only have to refuel every 10 days. I dont know why you would be getting such low gas mileage unless your running big tires or a lot of wieght -- or maybe the rebuild wasnt so good!
