Anyone use a Supra MAF on a 1999-2001 4runner? I bought it but when I looked at the stock one compared to the Supra one, there didn't seem to be much difference. I could be wrong, but I want to make sure the Supra one would give me more airflow before i cut my airbox to make room for the new MAF. I thought they used the same sensor for all 3rd generations, but when I looked at Gadget's webpage, it looked like his stock MAF was also torpedo shaped as opposed to mine which is made of glass.

The newer models flow about the same according to what I've heard. I'd keep the stock one, and sell the Supra MAF to someone with a 96-98 4runner, where it makes a difference.

I wish someone with some real computer experience could get into the redesign of the computer itself......I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to flash a programmable Eprom via a serial cable and give you full control over everything residing in the chip.

The SMT-6 is pretty cheap and well worth the money, I think.

Thanks for the reply Chris. My only question is this. Didn't you say that your truck would just idle when you put the supra maf in? I'm not sure if that was with or without the supercharger, but either way, how come I was able to drive mine with the supercharger and deckplate mod (and no fuel mods) with no problems? Could it be that the ECU is programmed differently? If that's the case, then you would think that the newer 4runners should have had slightly more horsepower than the older ones with 183 hp.

There was a learning curve when I first got the SMT-6, but now we've all got it figure out, and it's simple. You can use the SMT-6 to enhance a stock vehicle, one with a Supra MAF only, and one with any other modification combinations that you've seen. As far as the newer computers, there has been some discussion on this, and it's not proven yet what the deal is. Maybe you can be the first!

There is only one guy that has one working on a 99+ Taco. Others have tried, but they gave up to easy.

It is not a direct plug in like the pre 99s. The guy contacted me and I looked through the wiring diagram books I have and learned that the middle three wires on the MAF plug will have to be cut and reconnected in a different order for the Supra MAF to function on a 99+ truck. I am planning an update to my site with that info on it sometime when I get a free minute.

Don't cut up the 99+ airbox. Keep it and get a pre 99 airbox. It is a simple install on that box. Remove the big rubber gromment on the front of the MAF and instert it in the opening. Rotate it around until the mounting lugs line up with the mounting bracket. The lugs are on the oposite side of the Supra MAF compared to the stock pre 99 MAF so you will have to drill two new holes in the other side of the mounting bracket. Then use 6mm standard thread bolts to connect it. The front bolt hole will require a stack of washers to take up the space between the MAF and the bracket. Once you get it all sorted, take the MAF out and run a nice bead of silicone around the MAF to seal it to the air box and remount it. Let it sit over night to cure.

Now start your tuning.

In the end, you may find that it really is not worth all the trouble. Also remember the power record so far was with a stock 95 MAF, not the Supra one.
