Hi, I have a k&n for my 96, non surpercharged. The most expensive piece of plastic that I'll never buy again. I regret it (won't go into detail) and wish I would have known about the deckplate mod and intake silencer removal before I purchased it. I'm willing to trade my k&n for the stock setup, and I have been thinking about posting it on CL for a trade.

Okay so I removed the elbow from the fender, dusted off the old stock airbox (it still had a fresh stock filter element in it) and I retrofited my K&N intake system and here is what I would up with. As usual, TA was right. lol. I drove the truck after the modifications and it seemed a little peppier. Befor with the K&N intake, at WOT in 1st gear the truck seemed to stop accelerating past 4700 RPM; almost like the older RX-7's when they would stop accelerating due to fuel starvation when reved really hard. After the project, I went WOT in 1st and almost hit the rev limiter on accedent; the project did take away the induction noise that I've grown to love but a deckplate mod will fix that so long as it doesn't rob power. Just goes to show you.....K&N is full of crap!

About the results I would have expected. Althoguh the RX7's generally had fuel issues around 3800rpm when the secondary injectors were supposed to kick in not 4700 but thats splitting hairs lol.
The deckplate is purely a noise mod, it won't gain you any power but should not cause a loss of power either. I personally just run the stock box but i like the sleeper sound.

Ace..... we have been told by a shop rep who offers a system that delivers the cleaning solution under pressure, that it is not recommended for use on our TRD Supercharger. Something to do with damaging to the s/c internal coating.
I'm wondering if the motorvac system is delivered under pressure? Did your treatment require a shop visit or is it a DYI kit?
When we treated our 4R it was done by swapping the s/c with the stock manifold and putting the s/c back on after treatment. Well worth the trouble due to the enhance performance and much easier done with access to a full shop equipement.

The motorvac works by disconnecting the fuel line feeding the injectors. It machine then takes over the fuel supply and pumps a mix of gas and cleaner throguh the injectors. This will clean out the fuel lines, injectors, valves, combustion chambers ect.
It will not effect the SC in any ways as it never comes in contact with it.

If you want the extra sound from the ISR/Deckplate mods then yes they are worth it.

so for power your talking about just removing the elbow that turns into the fender?
if so, what about when i go off-roading? Would the deckplate be a good mod for power?

Off-roading or on-roading the deckplate won't add much if any power.

Sorry, thats not my department, making power is what i am good at. For off-roading tips there are other much more knowledgeable guys on here.

Removing that elbow is a good place to start. Past that the best bang for the buck is most likely going to be a complete tune up. I am talking everything.
Then next step would be a motorvac treatment or if on a tight budget a few cans of seafoam.
Thats about it for budget options unless you want to gut your cat and make a O2 simulator, that is worth a few ponies.
After that things get pricy for any measurable gains. Headers work but are a royal pain to install and are not cheap.
Supercharger is the best option for sure and the only option that will give you real power gains. Not cheap though.

Just the basic TRD supercharger setup. Real run of the mill setup except instead of using the 7th injector kit i use meth injection which is FAR superior IMO.

I would use 1 to 1.5 cans in the intake, thats where it does the most good then whatever is left put in the tank.
