1996 Purge Valve
Hello all: I've tried YouTube and I've searched the forums on this site but I'm not claiming that I did due diligence on this site. I'm just wondering how complicated it is to replace a purge valve and if there are any videos or step by step instructions? I'm not very mechanical but willing to give it a go. Thanks.

If you are talking about the vapor canister purge valve it is about the easiest repair you could ever do. It sits right on the large black vapor canister on the left fender well. There are two similar looking widgets (one is a sensor) so just google your year and "purge valve" to see which one it is. I am assuming you have the 3.4L engine. The 4cyl engines may have it in a different location.

At $100, I'd pull it off and test it to make sure its bad. It has two terminals and two hoses, and I believe its just an open-close valve. With no voltage applied to the terminals, blow into either hose port. Now do the same with 12v applied (polarity is not important). In one state you should be able to blow thru it. In the other state it should be blocked. If its bad it will be either open or closed all the time regardless of applied voltage. I think it should also click when you apply voltage, but it won't if its stuck. If it seems stuck spray some cleaner in the hose ports to see if you can get it operating.
Depending on model they are as low as $40 on ebay.
