1996 2.4l looking at 1996 3.4l parts runner

i have a 1996 2.7l which I love, a friend is selling their 1996 3.4l for a very reasonable price as the cluch just went, i cant seem to find info on compatablity on parts between these two. ideally id like to buy it dismantle the whole thing pack it into the shop and be able to keep my 2.7 going for a good long while. Is this a worthwhile purchase? are many of the parts compatible? this site has helped many a time and i think my joining is long overdue, thanks! also thinking of putting the 3.4 into my wifes 88 3.0 runner

Well being you would have two trucks of the same year I would think you could use a few parts.

Other then engine you don`t say what the rest is like both 4x4 manual trans one auto one 2wd etc

The more features they share the more parts you of course can use.

just what extra parts are you really needing ??

Me I would replace the clutch drive the 3.4

you are right, had a few beers in me when i made the post and left out the critical info!
they are both 4 runnners, manual transmisions, 4 wheel drive.
parts i really want are power steering assembly
oxygen sensor harness (previous owner cut off my plugs and wired the sensors directly to harness)
rear shocks
and lots of stuff i want to have as backup
rotors, calipers, brake lines, alternator, driveshafts, u joints, fuel pump, gas tank,
i am tempted to just drive the 3.4, but i dont tow anything i live in a small town with no speed limits over 80kmh, and i just love 4 cylinder engines
besides i plan to keep the 3.4 all cleaned up and shiney in my shop for a day that i might want the extra 40 hp. i guesse the biggest thing for me is the powere steering assembly, i have a leaky reservoir and when there is no fluid the rack and pinions sound like a dinosaur. to get the whole set up is upwards of 600 bucks so i just drive without power steering
i guesse the other option is to fix them both up and have 2 awesome runners

Replace the clutch and drive the 3.4 one. No sense in tearing apart a good vehicle for a "rainy day" project

my 2.7 4 runner had been garage kept most of its life so has no rust, i live in B.C. and the 3.4 definatly is already losing its bumpers to rust. also there is bad rust on rear axel mounts, one of which has already sheared then been poorly patched. In the end i decided to buy the 3.4 and im going to fix it up and keep both 4 runners. with my wifes 1988 we now have three 4runners in the driveway now , i will post up some pics soon. thanks for the input guys i had to agree with jasonyota in the end
