01 5vzfe cylinder misfire

i bought the truck a couple months ago and the check engine light was on. pulled the code it it was p304 cylinder 4 misfire. figured it was the coil packs so i went ahead and replaced all three. i cleared the code myself not thinking so i never knew if it got fixed. a week or so later it started to all of a sudden run sluggish. im on eastern nc and its having a hard time on our "hills" every time i go to get down on it even in first gear its like it looses a power and almost dies then picks up and starts to go. had to replace the clutch and after i hooked everything up the CEL came back on. same code. so now im thinking the fuel injector. the guy i bought it from said he has recently replaced the plugs and i dont know if he gapped them right or not. pulled the plug and its ngk plugs but i dont know if it looks bad.i cant figure out how to post pictures to show it to you. its not broke or anything. the white is a little discolored black but not bad

so i cleaned out the throttle body, cleaned the MAF, and recharged the air filter (k&n), replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs and ran some lucas fuel injector cleaner through it. so far it has been running better but the CEL still has not went off. any ideas?

Did you pull the EFI fuse or negative battery cable after doing the work to reset the CEL?

So, more problems. i put in a new clutch and when i put everything back together and reconnected the battery and the check engine light was off. came back on down the road and started to run like ˟˟˟˟. as soon as i left the clutch out it jumps then dies immediately and then power starts to return. i have absolutely no power though through the gears. i can nearly get it to 60mph and keep it there. got the code pulled again and 12 codes!! random misfire, and misfire in every cylinder! i dont know where to start with that. the spark plug wires are in the correct firing order as well. any input?

All the ground wires clean and tightly connected? Is something electrical not connected after the clutch replacement? O2 wires melted?

+1. Double check that ground by the diagnostic plug. Lots of weird crap has been caused by leaving that loose.

Probably a bit past time for the TB change.

Search AirCabinMan on eBAy for some excellent kits for the 5vz-fe with Toyota OEM at prices that can't hardly be beat.

yea i know. i bought the truck like 2 months ago and have been slowly getting this thing back in good running shape. the guy i bought it from just used it as a wood truck and never really did anything but replace a clutch he wore out and change the oil. I plan on starting a sas after the upcoming deployment and im trying to get all the little stuff taken care of first. no point in building a trail rig if the motor aint going to run right on the trail.

turns out it also threw the camshaft position sensor with all the misfires as well.so, i have been asking around and it seems like it could be several problems. of course the timing belt and ect needs replaced. im going to pull the cover off today and try to check the timing. any guidance on specific things to look for? someone also told me it could be the map sensor or the o2 sensor. any opinions before i start replacing things and wasting my money. the scanner they used wont tell me specifics about the senors as to which one it is. if the o2 was bad wouldnt it throw a code for that? or the same for the map sensor.

Check the crank pulley bolt. They can come loose and cause issues.

ok so a little more update. i have changed the timing belt using the kit off ebay from aircabinman. turns out my water pump has been bad a while. timing belt didnt look bad but like i said to my knowledge it has never been changed in all its 214k miles. the water pump has leaked all kinds of crap that has dried on the bottom of the timing belt and everything else. anyway got it all put back together and it runs a lot better now. no CEL until about 5 miles down the road. Came back on, got it pulled and now i still have the random misfire and misfire in cylinder 2 4 and 6? at least now the problem is a little more isolated to one side of the motor. any guidance on what it could be before i get to ripping into it again today?
