Yeah probably a fluke thing Chef, and yeah a torque wrench hit everything on this kit. I might take shortcuts here and there, but when I rebuilt this engine, EVERYTHING got a torque wrench to it.
I may get lucky, I don't know exactly when I bought this kit and I am going to give Ted a call because on his ebay listing:
I am close to that 3 year thing. Just not sure exactly. I have never seen this kit fail, not once.
The timing cover got taken out by the steel guide that broke and got wedged into the bottom. I'm surprised with the teeth marks that are on the now curved guide rail, that the bottom sprocket held up. It's a little marred up, but I would think that at least 1 tooth would have been missing.

well that would be excellent if it was covered under warranty. considering what I saw with the tensioner.
I know I definitely have a tesnioner, but it's damaged from the prior chain making grooves in it, so it's probably of no value.
where is this truck you are considering? I saw what looks like a 91 on the way to work...xtra-cab...did not see the price though, but that's a whole different animal.
was that Carl that had that flat-black 4runner for sale? is that a possibility or no?

didn't see the 83.
have had my head firmly planted up my butt for quite a while here for many reasons, plus the DRAMA on that mudbog page is a bit much lately. who has the 83?
back to more pertinent stuff. do you need anything from me...tool-wise? seems like everything I have parts-wise is busted beyond being useful.
we are going to head out today as a family to try to have a nice day out (rarely happens) before the boys go back to school tomorrow.
too bad you can't have that thing towed out to my house where you could work on it in peace. if you now someone willing to yank it all the way out here, I wouldn't care.

Yeah, what I have planed is yank then engine and stuff and put it into the 83 in the same weekend and do the money exchange then. The 83 wasn't listed, it fell into my lap. Someone else let me know about it. I just need a place to do it. Now how they can transport that 83 is another story. I don't know where it's located. Might be easier to do it where ever it is. Obviously it will have to be trailerd.
I should be good on tools etc etc.

If I have to, I'll build one out of 4x4's and my high lift.
Only issues I can thing of with the swap, are wiring (which shouldn't be hard) Carb to carb, but the charging system is different. The 83 should be external regulated vice internal of this one. Then there is the trans cross member. Pretty sure the engine mounts are the same. And then there is the driveshafts. Clueless about them really. May or may not be the same. I don't know.

Sorry to hear about the failed timing chain.
My engblder kit went at 27,000 miles as well about 5 years ago. I know I was not as hard on my truck as you are on yours. I think mine was a failed tensioner as well...

I'll keep the bed.
Just got off the phone with EB. They don't have sales records past like 2 years, so it's up to me to find the credit card purchase, which might be tough. I think I bought this via the phone through the GF credit card, but I do not know.

I have another perfectly good tensioner if you need it, Brandon.... The whole kit as a matter of fact, minus the steel guide.. All under 5Kmi. Lemme know, k? I even have my original timing cover. BUT, ....I was planning on keeping that and cleaning it up.
WOW, seriously... just trippy! Best wishes with the rest.. and LOVE THE VIDEO, BTW, "Redneck Impact Wrench!" FTW! hahaha.

Chef where did your kit come from? I might need it. Let me know how much you want for it. Gaskets and everything?
I can't find a credit card statement with EB's purchase on it. I did my rebuild in 10/2009. I confirmed that through build thread here as well as several other threads. But I might have bought the stuff with another credit card that I do not have access to now.

Nevermind Chef. I bought this kit. $70 shipped with the TC. And If all goes well, I'll have a spare headgasket. Not that I trust the one in this kit, but it's the cheapest I could find a steel rail kit with TC.

I keep seeing MIZUMO AUTO... interesting. Seem to use OSK and this other brand... Hmmmm, was an alternate for Toyota on Water pumps, etc. Back in the day... Can't remember, but okay, gotcha Hope it works out well.... Read up lots and posted a bunch in Ian's thread.... Lot's of links as to causes, etc. It's VERY all over the place(the causes) but Oil pressure seems to be a very common one.... Oil pumps DO go tired or even fail.... Not sure I should have went with Rock on that one and the H20 this time.. BUT, it's in there now, right? lol. My rattle is only in the morn.. So not sure what that is... I'm guessing a lazy or improperly set Rock Oil Pump that's not lubing the bearings fast enough.... THAT MAKES ME ANGRY! lol. Whatcha think? Could just be the chain taking that first turn and until it's lubed up from chillin in the oil bath and slingin it all over.... It's just a lil noisy?
Anyway, as I said, BEST WISHES! Watchin.... always! lol.

The part numbers cross to an "Evergreen" brand. I am almost positive there is only one manufacture of these steel rail kits. What I did find interesting that trolling through eBay, that there is one kit that has BOTH rails being metal. But didn't want to spend the exta coin on it because it came with the oil and water pumps as well. Which were changed out when I rebuilt the engine.
In my case it was either a failed gasket behind the tensioner or the tensioner bolts backed out. When these go back in Tensioner and rail bolts WILL be locktited in. I don't care what anyone says.
