Yes, the spacer ring in the center of the backing plate needs to be there, at least. I trimmed mine in such a way that I still have the bracket for the brake line to mount to, but that's all of the dust shield left. You can also just drill out the spot welds that hold a center ring to shield. Yes, the fj rotors are simply vented and thicker for the use of ifs calipers.

Also
http://www.jtoutfitters.com/front-br...62-p-2504.html
shows the same part number for fj40 and fj60, it looks like. You should be fine.

Ill figure something out....most likely just leave it there if I dont cut it. I can get the eliminator kit later....only takes 10mins to get to that shield.

Thanks for the link! Says they all are the same!

well...idk about the brake issue just yet. I had to break out the drimmel and clearance the inside of it. But then one of my IFS calipers was ceased. So it wasnt working very well and since that bolt was stripped it moved alot. I did driver her though!!!

Got my FJ40 Rotors.

Driver side went together amazing and I can use my IFS calipers.

Passenger side was a bit different. Went to put the hub back on with the FJ rotor and it wouldnt go all the way to the backing plate. Turned out the bearing race wasnt all the way seated.

Back on her own weight. This was right before the first drive.

Co-worker has a nice 3rd gen.

So I got a new knuckle to replace the one thats stripped and im sure is bent too....because neither the SFA rotor/caliper combo or FJ40 rotors/caliper worked. But the other side was fine....with both setups. I got the Hi-Steer arms and knuckle for $40!!

I actually enjoyed this process. Although putting it back together made me nervous when I got to the trunion bearings. My passenger side knuckle is nice and tight but not smooth and my driver side knuckle is loose as all get out. Sooo..rebuild is coming soon.

Back together with the Hi-Steer arms....using my factory Tie Rod is out of the question....its waaaayyy too long...so ill be buying a TG one once I figure out if I can use my factory rod ends with it.

So thats where Im at as of today. Need to find a new IFS rotor and get a new Tie Rod. I think ill be ok using my custom drag link. But we will see. Also need to get that rebuild going soon.

IFS rotor or caliper? Thought you were using the fj40 rotors.

I am.....Im using FJ40 rotors and IFS calipers. But I knew the knuckle was bad 1. because of the stripped ear and 2. Because with the SFA rotor and caliper that was on it before the caliper rubbed the rotor. And when I put on my FJ rotor with my IFS caliper it did the same thing. But yes im keeping my FJ/IFS setup....just need to find a new IFS caliper and I put a new knuckle on it today.

Gotcha, NAPA sells rebuilt calipers for cheap if you have a core. Think they're like 45 bucks.

Yeah I might look into them...I tried rebuilding this one but I couldnt get that dang piston out! so ill just pick up a new one. Should be selling my IFS lift tomorrow....that will pay for the new tie rod and caliper. I made a plan a long time ago that anything off the Toyota that gets sold goes to buying new parts...and anything traded off of it gets traded for something else for it.

Finally got that ceased piston out! Replaced it and cleaned up the cylinder. Seems to work fine. Havent bled brakes yet though. Also got the caliper on again...and NO PINCHING! it spins freely...with about NO clearance. Had to grind the back of the wheel spokes down and the caliper...need wheel spacers lol Also the same hole on this knuckle is screwed up at the very end...so I used a shorter bolt and it tightened down nicely. Now just waiting on my tie rod.

Curious to see where you go with your motor. I'm really tired of the under powered 22r, but the damn thing just keeps on working.

Yeah my 22R has proved itself time and time again lol Soooo I got a new tow rig....because my first one couldnt quite cut it....made a small upgrade

My Dodge about 2 weeks ago.

And the new rig I got about 2 days ago

My first diesel. Its a 99 4x4 F350 Crew Cab Long Bed Dually with a 7.3! 2.5" Lift....5" straight pipe turbo back to a 7" tip. AEM Intake. TS Performance 6 Stage Chip. Its in amazing shape and I got it for a steal!! I love it....for the first time tonight I actually used the 6 chip setting.....burned the duals through second across an intersection until I had to let off for the car in front. Its crazy. I drive around normally with it on 3 though.

So....now I can tow not only my Yota....but the rest of the crews trucks too!! lol
