Lex' 1988 4Runner Build-Up Thread

Got started this past weekend freshening up my son's '88 4Runner. I put just under 300K on it before willing it to him. He signed up for the Marine Corps just before graduating high school and I decided the two of us needed to get crackin' on this so he has a nice ride prior to shipping out for boot camp at the end of the year.

Below is what we know we are doing so far:
  • Oregon Engine Super Stock Rebuild 3VZE
  • LC Engineering Headers & Pro Flow Exhaust System
  • LCE Air Filter System
  • Rebuild Front End with OEM Ball Joints, Bushings, Idler Arm, etc.
  • Various New Bolt-Ons (all OEM): Steering Pump, Water Pump, etc.
I have a few pictures of us getting started that I will post and will provide ongoing updates as we make progress. Currently, we are awaiting most of the above-mentioned parts.

My first thread on this forum...so, thanks for bearing with me as I get the feel of things.

Hey man, how goes the build? I'm thinking about getting one of OERI's "Super Stock" 3VZEs and was wondering if you guys had it in the rig yet and what you thought of it. Worth the money or no? BTW, what's your suggested budget for this? I'm just trying to get a feel for how much I'm going to end up spending. Thanks! Also, tell your son thank you too, hope boot goes well for him!

Apologies for 'going dark' for so long - however, there has been no progress to report. It had become apparent that I needed help on this project; so, last week, I loaded the truck and other various pieces up on a wrecker and sent it to a dealership in a nearby town. The game plan is to have it running when my son returns from Afghanistan in a couple of weeks.

Dressing Out Motor

Checked in on engine installation today. The 3VZE Super Stock is almost fully dressed and will be dropped in today or Thursday. It's looking pretty tight - note one picture shows it with one of LC Engineering's Street Legal Headers set in place.

Nice looking runner. Hope your sons time in Afghanistan goes by quick. If you copy the [IMG]into the post and it will show as a larger picture.

Seen you sent it to the shop, for the motor, but I tried to make my 88 runner build to have some helpful information on about everything else other then the motor listed on first page. 8t8 has some good information on his build for motors if you run into and his dad is very helpful (92 Toy) for any questions you may have.
