Same thing happened to me, i hit water and bye bye brakes. Now they occasionally work lol. If i press hard enough they click and go to the floor lol. As far as the rears are concerned, i'm gonna convert them to disc.

Yea, you might want to check your fronts, for pad levels and then see if you can bleed them some. Start at the back of course... Disc's would be bling... then again i can get my hands on a sterling 10.5 with disc and a dana 60 with discs just not big enough tires haha but who wants 1-tons anyways? toyota mini's kick butt

My fronts were brand new when i bought the 4Runner in May so i know they're good. I think it's my rears that are shot. Crappy drum brakes. Once work picks up i'm gonna do the disc swap and call it good! And you're right Toyota all the way!

Hahaha straight up! i just replaced my rears for the first time since we bought the truck 23 years new... i think it had roughly 250,000 on the pads hahaha with some left i believe... but no stopping power what so ever. Your going to love those disc's im sure of it. Im gonna get my rebuilt motor in first and then worry about my tranny, once i get my driveline in better shape im going for 33's lockers, flat belly project and some nice skid plates.

I wouldn't be surprised if mine are that old too…

It sounds like you have a good plan, hope it all comes together nicely. Check out my build thread sometime for ideas or whatever lol

just for giggles... i thought i would post something on here.

The toyota has been parked for the entire winter with snow and ice and temps at -15. Never started or touched her. Then finally a couple of days ago i decided to take the battery out of my DD (the jeep) and put in the toyota. Fired right up on first crank.

did some digging and looking and i believe to have noticed that i have a blown head gasket. I think its this cause when i have the motor running i get constant air bubbles in the radiator. Anyone can confirm this?

So i got bored with not having work this week and not much to do on the jeep so i tore into the toyota motor to find its issue. I have part of the EFI off and will get the last few hoses disconnected so i can then get the header and finally head off.

this is what its supposed to look like when you take the cover off...

this is what it looks like now...

and this is how far i ended up tonight...

So as soon as i can get the last few lines and bolts off the runners the exhaust and head will come off like a snap... As long as the issue is the head gasket the motor will be running by the end of the week. then pull the tranny to install the new clutch and tranny mount.

MADE IN THE USA!!!

so this is what i found today...

as a whole

That piece missing in the gasket was torn off by me when i was taking the head off, its still on the head.

i got a little dirt on top of the cylinders which will be cleaned with everything else. Does anything look out of place, cause everything looks fine to me. When i pulled the head bolts some came out with a ton of oil and coolant, while others were dry. Is that normal?

So from what it seems i tore through the timing chain cover?

So thats as far as i got and it has been sitting in a garage waiting for me to get back at it this summer. I have been looking at rebuilding a second block i bought but now i have second thoughts on the ourchase. Its an 89 22re with roughly 190,000. What would the seasoned rebuilders recommend checking for and replacing?

Im not by the toyota or spare block but im looking to start hoarding parts till school lets out in may
