Can't wait to get my exhaust and bumper out of the way so i can work on my rear suspension. I plan on eliminating the block lift and getting longer springs, also gonna get or make an upper shock mount like the one Sky sells so i can get some bilstein 5150's and get some longer travel out of the rear, might need to do something about rear fenders, looks like they might rub. And then i will put a locker and maybe torsion bars. Id like the rear to be the best it can be withing my budget and functionality as a work truck and if for some reason that is not enough then i will consider an SAS up front........

 

Glad the pics are finally working. Man the Nee I see your truck the more it makes me want another 3rd gen reg cab. Your trucks a beauty.

I did, after i asked that. It looks really nice, i still didnt get through reading everything, there is alot.... Ill def comment on it when im done reading. I know most people dont like that old stinger you had, but i thought it was pretty sick, but probably not practical, except for open up gates lol.

I ordered my exhaust tips, took me forever to decide what style i wanted, this is them here.



They are "Jones" black vein powder coated tips 2" ID in 3" ID out and 16" long (couldn't find any shorter) , i ordered 2 of them and gonna use the existing muffler which i found out, after looking it up, is a Flowmaster super 44, and is not loud on here. But i also found alot of leaks, by the weld where the cat used to be and before and after the muffler. Im going with 2" pipe all the way from the down pipe, because i plan on putting a header on and it seems like almost everyone that goes bigger than 2 inch regrets it.
Just gotta come up with the $200 to pay the exhaust guy for the pipe and work, i cant wait till it is done, hopefully no more fuel smell when i open my door to get out.

It might even help with the running rich problem.

 

I have all stainless exhaust on my daily driver 88 truck off of a 2012 hyundai. Its super quiet and clean too, all free cause this kid wanted it all tore out and wanted it soundin all fast and furious! Score!

I've been having some overheating issues...

2 weeks ago i emptied my cooling fluid (antifreeze) because there was crud in the radiator as well as the overflow. Then i poured about a quart distilled white vinegar and the rest water, i ran it for about an hour and after it cooled down i flushed it (just from the top of the radiator) and then filled it back up with coolant.

A few days later my truck overheated bad, one of the coolant hoses blew out, the short one coming out of the water pump on the passanger side. I replaced that hose and refilled with coolant again.

Thursday i was driving and noticed my temp gauge getting high, i was out on a country road so i just turned on the heat and kept it at high speed watching the temp. All the sudden it started steaming real bad, so i immediately turn the key off and pulled over. There was a produce stand there and they helped me fill my radiator (it was empty). I drove to Advanced Auto and bought a new thermostat, a 10" high speed electric cooling fan, coolant, and most importantly a coolant system flush kit.

The first thing i did is cut out my old thermostat rod and spring so basically it became a pass through, because the old one was sticking when i tried to push it in. Sorry forgot to take a pic of that. So i installed the "T" in the hose going into my heater core, and flushed the system out for 20 minutes with truck running and heat on, couldn't afford the actual flush fluid, just used water. Once that was done i filled it back up with coolant and water.

Next i proceed to install the cooling fan, i really wanted to install it in between the a/c radiator and the engine radiator but the fan was too big, so i installed it in front of the a/c radiator. I had to remove a bracket that was holding an a/c line, i wrapped it in plastic tubing so it would rub on the frame, and i then had to cut out portions of the grill. Then i ran two wires through the firewall, one from the battery and one from the fan, with an in line 20 amp fuse. They ran to a switch that i mounted to the dash, as well as a ground wire on the fan side as well as to the switch. It came out pretty nice, and its nice to have the extra fan especially when im in stop n go traffic or slowly climbing hills and riding on trails, it actually improved on the efficiency of the a/c under slow speeds. And it does keep the temp down in the engine bay.

I plan on cleaning the wires up and running the plastic around the wires the whole way in the engine bay.

 

Theres a fine line between hot and too hot on these engines in my opinion, ive overheated them before and blew a headgasket. If my gauge gets above the half mark i usually pull over and check it out.

 

Wow, i guess that is a good way to gauge it, you can't be too careful!

 

I always spend alot of time burping the system. And now I will jack the front up using the two lift arms on the lift and take it so high that I have to climb up it to see the top if the radiator and I let it run until its at temp to make sure all air is out.

X2 on overheating them. It doesn't take muh to warp a head on these engines and blow a HG

 

Ok, ill def make sure i am more careful, that is twice in two weeks, not, good, i think with what i did to the thermostat i shouldn't have any issues, i have an aftermarket radiator so whenever i have filled it up with coolant it doesn't bubble up like it does in most vehicles, i don't know if that is related or not.....

 

Finally got stuck for the first time since iv'e owned her. Was riding over my uncles dirt bike track, did fine until i tried to back up this dirt table top jump, lol, this is what happens with open diffs.







He pulled me out with his 1500 Silverado, it is alot worse than it looks, front and rear opposite tires were just spinning, and the rear axle was totally flexed out, i cant wait to do a long travel in the rear, and a locker.....

 

Looks like fun. Lockers definitely make all the difference.

 

finally got my uncle to help me with my bumper.

We had to cut 10 inches out of the middle as it was too long, and we fabricated mounts out of 1/2 plate steel (strong stuff). It was a fun project.

We are still going to make a winch mount, light brackets and 2 tow points and then i will sand it all down and paint it like Toyota Boy suggested. Anyways here it is......















My uncle is a professional welder, it has been his full time trade for 18 years, he gets pretty much any small pieces of metal for free (great perk where he works), so i gave him a few bucks to cover his materials for his welder and such.

But i am extremely happy with it, he says when we are all done with bumper we will fabricate a skid plate from bottom of bumper to the lower frame where the lower control arms connect (i think its call the cross member???) Its gonna be a thick gauge aluminum diamond plate with a steel frame and steel brackets to bolt it to.
