92 pickup 350 chevy build

So i lost my Jeep to careless drivers not watching stop signs. So with a somewhat heavy heart I have a new headscratcher.

New body, rebuilt chevy 350, 5" RC suspension lift, new clutch summit racing radiator and extra electric fan. Runs great but transmission is a little rough. I'm going to swap out all the fluids. Any ideas short of rebuilding or replacing the tranny to make shifting at a stop easier. It goes through the gears in motion pretty easy but getting it to sink into 1st or R at a stop can be tough, but not always.

Sorry to hear about the Jeep!

Have you looked into the shift linkage? My V8 swapped pickup does the same thing, but only every so often and I think it has something to do with that. My truck has the stock W56[?] 5 speed transmission. My advice is to check fluid levels first before tearing into anything.

I hope the best to you, and welcome to the Toyota brotherhood!
