so that was a crap-load of fail.
bought the impact wrench as promised.......not a chance. didn't do squat.
tried doing it myself....ended up bending the pulley holder.
how the hell could i have such an easy time with the crankshaft bolt but not these? i wonder what these are torqued to?? a 1000??

If you can get a pulley holder on the gear and then wedge it against something, you still can't get the cam bolts the crack loose? That's insane! I think the cam bolts are supposed to be 80#, according to the book for the V6. Maybe that's your issue, along with having many miles on the sucker, eh?
Sorry to hear you're having issues with em, man.... It's always something, eh? lol.

hey guys.....ummmmm i gave away my torch.
i just gor done reading this thread VITALY and saw mention of the part on the cam for a wrench but it's a quite large wrench at that.
i've bent the pulley holder.....not sure if it's still usable....but i'm gonna use it until it's not.
Mark...here's a good thread i found.

so here's the newest entry (few nights ago) to the jar of broken tools.
1/2'' to 3/8'' adapter
today's purchase (didn't do the trick) but a good tool to have around, I assume
The OPPONENTS....those 2 little guys holding the wheels in place
this was my bright idea i hatched (don't do this)....i wedged wood to keep the engine from getting pulled down but the bad part is that i anchored to the support and ended up pulling that up....FAIL
so then we hooked it back up to the hoist...well not really....used the hoist arm as my anchor point since i knew i couldn't pull it down.......when i pulled down the engine went up.....FAIL
so then we hooked the motor itself to the hoist...nervous as all hell because i, yet again, have made the motor shift on the stand and up in the air a few times as sideways and i was afraid of snapping the stand (OLD MAN STRENGTH)....so we put the top middle pulley back on and used that to wedge against......BINGO!!!
Much louder CRACK than any other time, in fact the pulley holder went flying and thankfully only hit Joe's wonky fender that i want to replace anyway....good thing it wasn't him or his windshield. for the driver's side just reversed the wedging and tied an extension cord around the pulley tool to absorb the energy and CRACK that one came loose too.
after the 1st one, i was sure we broke something but doubted we got the bolt loose.
Pics
yup...she's bent
the wedging
and the 2 little SOB's

To quote from another thread, I "had to work smarter, not harder". the problem is the pulley holder just kinda gets wedged in there and had a tendency (because it's bent) of falling away.....but i needed to give it a little bounce.
gotta see if i can sig that

What a whonky looking pulley holder.. This is what mine looked like and worked like a charm.
Congrats anyway on getting the nuts off! I too broke a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter too. I just dont think they can handle the kind of torque needed for this job.

you know it baby!!
i saw that on-line, wanted like $40 for it.
and yeh....the 3/'8'' stuff is no match for tat kind of torque.
hey....thanks buddy (fellow Old Man...I think). get better fast....maybe some chicken soup eh?
hopefully no more hurdles for this build. actually, so far, so good. kinda thinking it has not been hard at all yet.
