89 3.0 pickup. clutch fan vs flex fan
Hey guys n gals
I just got my truck back on the road. I blew a head gasket.
My cousin (mechanic) told me to consider losing my clutch fan setup, and go with a flex fan.
I liked the idea, so I tried digging up some info on the internet about the swap but couldn't find any scenarios with my motor.
Does anyone have any thoughts they would like to share with me?
I would like to go flex if I find out its going to give me the same or better cooling results.
I may also consider electric fan if the flex isn't gonna work.
thanks for any time givin

Don't waste your money. The mechanical fan is going to pull WAY more air and they're more reliable. I had an electric fan on my 92' 3.0 and had problems with it, now have a mechanical on my 22re with no problems ever. Only advantage i see to an electric fan is if you put a really big one on you might get slightly better AC at idle and you can turn it off for water crossings. Assuming you don't regularly drive through water up to the hood, keep the stock fan.

thanks for your input.
I should add the reason why he said to switch to flex.
he was mentioning how the clutch weighed so damn much and I would end up with a hp gain by removing that weight.

My 90 3.0 had a flex-a-lite electric fan on it when I bought it (the correct fan for my application according to flex-a-lite). I put the stock fan back on because it would overheat climbing steep terrain in 4 low. I did not notice any difference in power or mpg. Based on my experience, I say don't bother with the electric fan.
