Talking 1987 22RTE 4runner Restoration

This is the official thread of my 1987 Turbo 22rte 4runner. I picked this truck up in 2022 around August and towed it from where it had been sitting for 7+ years. After arriving at the house, I proceeded to clean it up and start by removing the drivetrain. I will make most posts after this to showcase the progess so far. I haven't posted to forums in a while, but want to have a build thread so I can document my progress that will take years to fully complete. My goal is to recreate the truck back to factory as close as possible.

After getting it bathed, I decided to remove the passenger seat to see what kind of work it was going to take to get the interior back in shape. With the truck sitting so long, I was thinking there might be some rust hiding underneath the carpet. I was fortunate and no rust was found! The paint looked factory and it is only going to take some new carpet!

After assessing everything it was time to down and dirty. I had my dad help me pull the 4runner into the shop and onto the lift. It was time to get the drivetrain out and start the rebuild on the 22RTE!

The transmission came out with out much fuss!

We decided to pull the gas tank as well and the fuel pump had seen better days!

Up next was getting the tractor to assist in pulling the 22RTE out!

Once out we mounted it to the engine stand and proceeded to take off the OEM turbo and manifold.

With the motor out and disassembled, it was sent off to the machine shop to be inspected and bored out for new pistons.

The machine shop had to bore the block 30 over and I ordered all the parts needed to get it back together.

Thank you for the comment. Yes on my 3rd post I figured out how to make them bigger, but that post is awaiting admin approval.

The parts rolled in for the rebuild. So far the pistons are in and now I am awaiting the cylinder head to finish the longblock.
