1986 pickup value?
If this is the wrong forum section please let me know, i wasn't sure what to post it in.
I'm looking at purchasing this truck: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/e...ationFlag=true
The guy claims it has new brakes and shocks and all it needs is a 22re engine, says it has original harness and everything. He insists that his price of 1000 is firm. I live about an hour and a half away and would need to rent a trailer. Is it worth the cost?

It is a pretty good price and it is in nice shape. Buy it assuming that the transmission will have to be replaced at some point too. At the very least you should put it on jacks before you buy it and make sure the wheels spin.

So it's worth 1000+ a tank of gas+ $100 to rent a trailer? Assuming it's in reasonable shape and that the 185,000 kilometer odometer reading is legitimate. Just to clarify, there is currently no engine in it.

Well yes/no. I mean if some point you want to do a solid axle swap, maybe wait. New motor+axle will brinug you to the cost of a decent straight axled rig anyways. That being said if you are mechanically inclined and can find a motor on Craiglist needing some TLC it would be worth it.

I don't have any particular interest in doing a solid axle swap. I've found an 89 pickup with a 22re that i could pull the engine out of which is listed for 1200, but i could probably get it for under 1000 as its been listed for a month. How much is a decent running 22re motor worth? http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/e...ationFlag=true I am reasonably mechanically inclined and i do have a garage and tools, but my knowledge is limited. However, my brother is a mechanic so if i need assistance there's always him or sites like this for advice.

I bought one rebuilt professionally because mine had already been rebuilt twice and had a little over 300,000 miles on it, and I paid $1300 shipped for it. Around here I have seen 22re's in need of a rebuild going for 400-500. A rebuild is pretty straight forward, and there are a lot of great guides on this website for that as well.
That truck you posted isn't bad, I am sure you could pull all kinds of parts off of it aside from the motor.
