I'm installing a lower intake manifold on a 22RE. I have an OEM gasket for between the lower manifold and head (part no. 17177-35022) and I'm wondering if I should use any kind of sealant or adhesive here. The shop manual just says to install it but I've noticed the later gaskets from Toyota for the 22RE have a rubber bead around the ports but this one is only fiber and seems a bit thin to me. I feel like that bead must have been added for a good reason.

 

If you have the correct gasket no sealer is needed unless you think you need a LITTLE bit around the water ports b'cuz of minor pitting of the aluminum
