The car has ended up being everything I had wanted. Bit of a laugh to punt around in, and clean enough to look nice from a couple feet away. All good fun.

The top still hasn't been up since the last pics! Spends most of its time just sitting in the garage.

Replaced the fuel pump (mechanical on the 3Y) today, after headaches caused by wondering why it would cut out occasionally. Lots of room meant it was a 15minute job.. and sorted!

Anyway, just some more of the same.. from a drive today after sorting the pump:

Roof went up just before winter (around May?) and has been up since. Doesnt get particularly cold in Melbourne in winter, just a bit of rain.. So no issues with cold or leaks at all.
With the roof up and seats folded flat since, the car has continued to be ridiculously practical. 6ft tray accessible from the cabin, with sides that fold up in seconds? Top. Notch. haha

Beautiful job on the 4 runner, you'be done an excellant job on both the interior and exterior! The right hand drive looks so cool! Nice job on the rust repair! The only other 4runner I've seen with rust in the same area was on this same build up section and was also from Austrilia. (1XD_351's build thead) Must be a "down under" kinda thing, lol..

Love the soft topper too, keep up the good work!

Cheers again guys.

Thats the standard wheel here.
You'd be able to get one sent to you from a dismantler here if you're keen. Likely not worth much..!

I have seen it more and more on other Aussie 4Runners now.. particularly noticable when the upper real decal is missing (lost when repairing the rust). No idea why they rusted there, here; but possibly a different type of seal was used, not used, or the roof was stuck down. Curious to know.
Upside - I can always get those sections out of the US if i want some rust-free ones!

Couple more pics..

Had some other wheels for close to a year now, which I'd bought specifically for the 4runner. Had yet to put them on since I'd been loving the chrome 16" stockies so damn much..
They're SSR Auswuch; 15x7 -13, three-piece, and forged centres anodized gold. Sold by SSR (Speed Star) from I suppose the late 80's until the mid-2000's.
Got a set of tyres fitted to them last weekend, and finally put them on. All good fun..

Awesome wheels! Never quite seen anything like those before. What wax do you use to keep this thing shinning like a new penny? And is there a turbo in there or no?

They'd be the most common of SSR's 4WD wheels. There were three different types under the 'Auswuch' sub-name, these technically being the Auswuch 1.. the original of the three.
All those barrels in the pic a couple posts ago are SSR. I have a bit of a thing for their wheels..!

Wax I use is P21S 100. I use it on the other cars, so this just gets it too. Any wax or sealant would be find though.
The paint is FAR from good, but I just try to keep it neat enough. I've polished it up once, and then keep the wax up to it to save having to polish it again.
Single-stage acrylic paint - its high maintenance!

..and unfortunately no turbo here either. Just standard old 3Y-C.. its a bloody leasurely thing...

Almost a year later; another update.
Been a somewhat eventful year for the cooling system at the very least! I should've seen the lead-up, but seems like the headgasket had split slightly into one of the cylinders.. pressurizing the cooling system. I'd guess anyway..

The heatercore started to leak one day; so out came the dash again, to get to the core. Soldered that up, and all good.
Then the radiator started to leak. Out that comes, and off to a radiator joint nearby, where the older guy there was sceptical at fixing it (as it would just happen again somewhere else).. so I ended up with a new repro unit. All good.
..then finally the radiator hose blew off as I was getting onto a freeway. It mustve dumped the water in no time, as before I know it.. its pinging away. I pull over, but not much I could do here. The headgasket cooked.
Had a local mechanic do the headgasket, sending the head off to get cleaned up seperately.

So.. FINALLY.. its all good again! All good fun I guess.

Other than that...
Its still gradually trying to rust away, with those same small spots absolutely everywhere! Nothing seems to have got any worse though, and the bogged up rear quarters are holding up well.
Its garaged and I keep it clean as usual.. which helps.

5 months later, and we're getting to the end of another Summer here.
Put some Japanese-style custom plates on the 4Runner not long after the previous pics (its the name of a 80's-specific Japanese car magazine), but otherwise nothing else has changed. Nothing has gone wrong. Just does its thing...

So not much else to add, but some more unnecessarily flattering photos...

Cheers.

What's your mileage with the 2.0? Never heard of this engine before. Seems like it would be great to cruise around in. Very original looking 4runner.
