HilUX 84 Suspension Ride Height 28 inches

Gidday' All,
Lots of info on this sight some of your rigs are out their to say the least.Dropped, lifted customized air bags I guess something for everyone.

I have an old 1984 hilux 4 x 2 diesel 2.4D its been abused and used here on the farm for years.I never washed it,covered in bird crap, cow crap, mud. I only changed the oil every now and then. Its was rusting away paint was getting rough so I spray packed it.If anything broke Id get secondhand parts or cheap after market parts to keep it going.

Anyway, I was going into town a few months back to pick up some stuff for the farm and a young fella pulled out in front of me and I T boned him.The whole front pushed, in every panel and light smashed.

It was a sad moment,I have been driving this little truck around for 20 odd years.I just couldn't let this truck end up at a junk yard.So I'm rebuilding it back to original using original Toyota factory parts with the insurance money.

I have it back on the road with new panels and a fresh paint job,but I have a lot of work still to do.I am in the process of replacing the complete suspension.Torsion bars, control arm bushes, shocks, ball joints ect.

I have read this complete site looking for info on ride height so as I can reset my new torsion bars back to factory height.
No information exists that I can find.So I scratched my head and figured a way to work it out.

I measured the droop of the front wheels after raising the truck and I get 2 inches/ 50mm of wheel droop.I then lowered the vehicle and measured the ground clearance between the ground and the lower wish bone which is 7.1 inches/180mm.Factory spec for ground clearance is 7.8 inches / 200mm.

I then jacked the truck up to get the correct ground clearance 200mm and them measured the height between the ground and the chassis rail just below the doors.I get a height of 11 inches/280mm at the front chassis rail.So that gives me a ride height of 28 inches/711mm from the ground to the top lip of the front wheel arch.

My bars are sagged about 1/2 inch/12mm from new more on the drivers side. Not bad for a near 30 year old truck thats lived on dirt roads.

I could get away with the old bars but Im going to replace the bars with new ones as the spring rate might be wrong and the old bars have to come out to do the lower control arm bushes anyway.Im installing factory originals which you can still get from Toyota.

So for those people looking for factory ride height to a 1984 Hilux 4 x 2 Diesel.Ive worked it out for you.

Pictures of my truck before I had it fixed..

Regards
all...
