93toy's 1985 4Runner Build-Up Thread

Yeah, that's what's bad. Mine is a factory SR5 with the gauge package, but the oil pressure and water temp gauges were totally unreliable. I like to be able to keep an eye on things, so I just went aftermarket.

where by chance did you get those? I like the small, clean look of them.

They're Glow Shift gauges. After I read the write-up (install) in 4wdToyotaOwner magazine a few months ago I decided to go that route. They had pretty good reviews and so far I'm really happy with them.

I can't decide if I should re-stripe it or not. When I was building it I totally planned on putting them back on. But when I got it back from paint I talked myself out of it. We have 1 vote for "do it"! Any other stripe opinions?
Here's the hookup on the A-pillar mount. Excellent fit and finish, just dye to match.

how is it turning the 35"x15.15 swampers with that 22re? lol i freaking love those tires, looks so siiiiiiiiick but im just not sure how bad it fill destroy fuel millage? im sasing my 91 4runner with a 3vze and 5speed and its still going to be my DD so im just wondering how bad it would be compared to a 12.50? o and if you dont mind, what back spacing are you running? thanks and keep up the good work

But with the 5.29's it does okay. I never had a 12.50 on it but I'm sure it would make a difference as the Swampers on it are a HEAVY tire. Not sure of the backspacing, I'll try to find out.

haha oyah well i wouldnt imagine it to fly lol. yeah i bet they weigh a hella lot but if a 22re can move it then a v6 with 5.29's should be ok i guess haha. do you think your millage is much worse or not that bad? ok yeah if you could find out what the backspacing is that would be awesome but its ok if you cant
thanks

Man I love the write up! I have a 85 SR5 too and I hope mine turns out half as a good as yours. Have you started on the windshield trim yet? I am going to follow the write up 4crawler had for the windshield, but use rubber trim instead of the vinyl,http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...rim/index.html My uncle works at Freightliner and told me there is a rubber seal used on the trucks that would work great, he has not given me the part number yet. He says the rubber will fit in the slot where the chrome trim was, once I get it done I will do a write up. To answer 91 toyota, my truck has 5.29's w/ 33x12.5x15 on 15 x12 wheels w/ the upgraded 90 and later intake and mine runs like a raped ape. I know its not 35;s but close.

The windshield trim is already in place in all the "after" pics. I had the windshield removed and all windshield area rust addressed before paint. Then after it was painted I had a new windshield installed with the new rubber gasket. It was a generic piece from what I understand but it worked out exactly as I wanted. Seats up nicely against the glass and the paint.
