thebrick's 1980 Pickup Build-Up Thread

Ok, so i've had my truck for almost 8 years now. it was my first vehicle, and was given to me by my grandfather when i was in highschool. It sat in storage a few years in college, and i have been daily driving it for the past year since my other car died. I have not been kind to it, and have driven and offroaded it hard in the past. becuase of this is has a few problems that i will be fixing very soon. i decided to get this thread started now, and i will fill in all the details in the next few weeks.

To start, my truck is bone stock. 1980 4x4 longbed pickup with 138k on the original 20R. When i got it from my grand father i did a few repairs and painted it. its kinda orange/kinda red. There is an exhaust leak at the manifold, an oil leak at the front of the valve cover, and probably a few other ones i haven't noticed yet.

It has 30x9.50 dunlop mud tires on it.

In the next week i will be putting a doug thorley header on it and having it helicoiled to fix the exhaust leak. Then i will be putting on a carb from a 22R with some LC engineering bits (adapter, rebuild kit, k&n). It needs new shocks, so some ranchos will be coming soon, as well as some interior bits, and a fix for the sloppy shifter. + a tune up.

Thats all for now, i will post some "before" pictures in the next few days than try and update regularly over the next month.

For the next year or so it needs to be a daily driver, so i wont be doing any extreme modifications. However, my goal for the truck is 35s, dual transfer cases, a custom flat bed, maybe an exo cage, and maybe a diesel conversion (but at least a 22re). Thanks all.

Sorry, work is crazy busy and i'm still waiting for the parts to put the 22R carb on the 20R manifold. Tracking says they are 2ish days out. I got the Carb, which ran before it was pulled from the motor, but i kinda want to rebuild it anyway because Im not sure how great of shape its in. i just put a reminder of on my phone for when i get home tonight (when ever that is). updates soon.

Pictures!!!!

Ok, Here are few pictures of my truck from 5 years ago. it is a little worse for the wear now. i had some rust problems, and there are some bondo spots, but i will hopefully get to them soon. the only thing that is different are the tires, i now have 30 inch dunlop mud terrains.
