Ken's 81 Yota

Bought out of a pasture for $100!! Name: photo2.jpg

Took her home and got it to start after new starter and fuel pump. Fuel filter kept clogging up so I replaced all the lines and put a fuel cell in the bed. Carb was trashed, so I bought a weber after about 2 weeks of fighting with it finally running pretty good.

And here's where I am as of last night. I don't have much time usually during the week. This bed had quite a bit of rust, cut it out and weld new metal in.

Bought a sandblaster from harbor freight and that really sped things up. I also got paint and primer in. After opening the paint and seeing it in real life, I had to see some on the truck!!! Since this is my very first attempt at painting a vehicle I decided to do the tailgate first. Didn't turn out too bad. Besides Mosquitos and gnats landing on it. I'm not looking for perfection or anything close. This truck will be used and beat on now and then!!! Here's a shot in primer

The interior in my truck is beige and brown and the pickup itself is brick red yuck
I sprayed it desert sand and black then noticed about every pickup out there is the same color scheme so back to the drawing board

It did look good in those colors though

Progress

I got a lot done in the last day and a half. Both front fenders stripped. Banged out a few dents, a little bit of filler work and right now they are primed waiting on a lil sanding and paint. I am going to spray tomorrow and then I will post more pics. Name: 80A3D262-2E72-4A7D-BAFA-DC0385FE49C9.jpg

I have spent a lot of time reading over Kawas build thread and thanks to him I decided to order a powder coat gun. I originally planned on painting all my handles, wheels, grill etc flat black. But i now think it would be a lot better to powder coat them

You won't regret getting the powdercoating gun! I will warn you on the flat black powdercoat though, it had the exact same properties as any flat black paint - get grease or oil on it and it will never be the same. It would go with the satin or semi-gloss black powder. The look will be close to flat against a glossy paint, but you won't get all those flat black problems.

Nice progress so far though!
