how clean?

how clean?
I am putting a '82 2.2L back together with a reworked head (all new valves, guides). I cleaned up the surface on the block, and chased the threads. But there seems to be minor uneven deposits on the surface. I used cheap brown paper and solvent, rubbed hard...This head is securely bolted down with 20 bolts (12x1.25), but I know compression is high on this engine. How clean do you need to make the surface on the block to make a good surface for the new gasket? The head was ground a new surface (LCE). Should I get some fine grit emery cloth and gently attempt to clean the metal more completely?

When I did the head on my 22re I carefully scraped the gasket off then gently scrubbed the
top of the block with a scotch brite pad.
Vacumed the cylinders and bolt holes, then wiped everything down with brake cleaner.
Brake cleaner does'nt leave residue like carb cleaner can.
Emery cloth may leave some gnarly abrasives in the cylinder.
You want to make sure those bolt holes are clean and dry before bolting it together.
Oil or dirt in there will give you a false torque reading.
5000 miles later my head gasket is still hanging in there.
