adamsbro1 '82 Build-Up thread

I am working on the build up on my 82. Just to give a bit of background, the truck has been in my family for probably 16 years or more and my grandpa gave it to me last year. I have planned on the build since i got it but kinda got forced into it when i blew the rear main seal and tranny in one trip!! So plans are SBC 305 (only cause it was free if i was buying a motor it would be the 4.3L). I am currently installing a 3" body lift, next comes the Superlift 7" suspension with full width chevy axles. I am also getting a trans and np205 from a 76 chev given to me that will be behind the 305. Now mind you this will be a slow build for one its my first and for two i am limited on money and time! I never have both at the same time. So here are a few pics i have taken and a link to my photo bucket if you want to see all i have taken.

side view

obviously the famous 22r.

No more 22r.

Drivers Front w/o body lift.

Drivers Front w/ body lift. one side at a time itll come together ok.

heres the full side with 1/4 of the lift.

More to come as i go obviously I like pictures and plan to take lots so bare with me if i post to many pics!!

and as i said before check the photobucket link for more pics that i haven't put on here.

Ok so i tore down 90% of the motor today "NOT SO PRETTY" but here is what i have. Also i took over 50 pics of the process today but didn't think i should post all of them but here is a few of the most important. And if you want to see the rest just visit the photobucket album.

Ok so I'm not sure if Anyone has been looking at this but I thought I'd ask anyway suggestions??? Rebuild the 305 or spend even more money for a 4.3l?? I know I can rebuild this cheaper because if I get a 4.3 I'm still gonna have to tear it apart and put new seals and gaskets in everything cause I'm not gonna put a new motor in that's going to leak all over everything ya know??

if you click on your pic on photobucket .. you will see it's larger .. you need to copy that larger image tag and post it into your build thread ..

hope that helps ..

heres the thing!! Any motor i put in it i am going to tear it apart and put all new gaskets and inspect it very well anyways!!! and i cant find one around here for less than 500 right now and i can get this one bored cleaned and rebuilt for a little more than that so if i get another for 500 then i still have to put another $????? into it so i am going to take it to the shop and see how bad it is and go from there. but yes i do agree it looks pretty bad.

pretty typical 1st gen cab rust, have fun dealing with the cab mounts, they looks like they are totally gone.

chip out all surrounding sound deadener before you start your patch welds, it is highly flammable

well i got my axles a couple weeks ago but i have been real busy at work haven't had much time but i did put them up close to the truck to give myself an idea of how much wider it will be.. i also cut out the inner fender wells for clearance. and i made a little template at work and did a REAL QUICK spray paint job on it. so here are some pics.

Before cut out.

After Cut out.

Rear Axle..

Front Axle. I couldn't get back far enough to get both sides but here is one..

And here is the Stencil that i made and painted on.. I thought it was cool.

Also For anyone looking at this just wanna give a heads up that i am no where near as talented as SLACKER..... Thought i would give him mad Props and if anyone hasn't looked at his build thread yet please wait til after im done or mine will be of NO interest to you !!! LMAO. Just kidding go check it out that guy is a genius..
