Just an idea I'm tossing around in my head.

I do not know how to change a timing belt/water pump, but would love to learn how. I can do suspension stuff, but when it comes to the engine, I'm lost (except for plugs).

I was thinking, how about if we got 10 people to pitch in $100 each, then pay a Toyota tech $1,000 to teach us how to do this. I know of a guy in Suagrhouse who used to be a Toyota tech and is now trying to start up his own shop. (or if we only got 5-6 people, maybe $150 each and see if the tech will take that offer). I can also use my Flip video to record the whole thing, so we can always have it for reference.

Let me know who's game and if you have any inputs. My truck is a 3.4L V6, but I'm sure a 3.0L V6 would be similar.

I did my timing belt and water pump in 2007 right after I bought my rig. There are some excellent write-ups around for this DIY - It took me about 19 hours (stupid ac compressor). I did my wife's acura TL this last autumn and that took me about 6 hours. I had only done suspension work and oil changes prior to doing my 4Runner's TB. There are a few very specific time savers that you can be prepared for to seriously cut down the time it takes. I can't pony up for a mechanic, but post up if you decide to do it yourself. I can definitely offer some advice, and maybe even some time, depending on my schedule at the time.
