4Runner Replacement Keys. Dealership or Locksmith?
So... My 1999 Limited was totaled
Now have a 2016 Trail Premium. Going to see if repeating the process of buying one about 5 years old with about 100K on it gets me another 20-ish years.
It came with one key with the keyless entry buttons.
I would like to get at least one duplicate key, a valet key, and whatever that code is.
Am I better off just biting the bullet and going to the dealership or should a competent locksmith be able to get access to this information and program them?
Along these same lines, the physical key worked great in the ignition of the '99 but it would not turn any of the physical locks any more - at least not without a fight. Is there a recommended procedure to keep that from happening? Maybe work them all with the key at every oil change?

I ended up getting some remote blanks from Amazon and an X-tool D7 scan tool. It had no issues programming the transponders, remotes, and an OEM valet transponder key. Got them cut at Ace hardware and all worked 100%.
