2012 - Trail: Ordering for Summer Delivery w/ ARB Options...strategy?

Hello All,

Former owner of a 2008 V8 Sport Edition, looking to get back into a 4Runner this summer and I'm getting ready to order and have a few questions.

I stumbled across the XPlore program which allows designated dealerships to sell specialty models (If I have that wrong / misunderstood we can discuss that). I'm in the beginning phases of working with a dealership in Michigan.

I'd love to order a Trail Edition and option it out with the following options:

- ARB Bumper
- ARB Lockers
- ARB Roof Rack
- OME Suspension
- ARB Sliders
- BFG All Terrain Tires

The dealership has come back with an initial build sheet showing a Trail Edition with the following options listing for $40,500

Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) ... 1750.00
Display Audio with Navigation and Entune - . 995.00
Carpet Floor Mat & Cargo Mat ............... 225.00

This is not including the aforementioned aftermarket additions...yet.

I've got a few questions specifically for the yotatech forums:

1) If I'm getting the OME suspsension, is any of that negated by the KDSS? Should I really get this option?
2) Do I need a trail edition if I'm getting ARB Lockers?
3) What is a good price for trail edition?
4) When do I begin negotiating in this process?

I've got several months yet, as I'm currently in Afghanistan but I'll be back shortly enough, I just want to get out in front of this problem early enough so that I can get the perfect truck.

Thoughts?

the Trail Edition comes with a rear electric diff lock so all you need is the front arb locker.
for the suspension, you might like to look into Icon Vehicle Dynamics. for the sliders, there are other options. try checking Toyota120 forum

Over the past few days I've worked through a lot of my questions, but some minor ones still remain but I think I'm on the right track for getting the perfect package put together.

I've found invoice pricing around $37,000 for a fully equipped trail. Anyone think a fully optioned 4Runner should go for less? More?

Agreed on Limited Slip and Rear ARB Locker. I think I'll hold off and simply run a front locker for the extreme circumstances that I potentially find myself in (not likely).

KDSS as I learned after I made this thread is an electronically adjustable sway bar system and is unaffected by any off road suspension installation. Verdict: Keep

Trail Editions (it seems) come with a slightly different 4WD system than the SR5's have. Downhill Assist Control (name?) is a key feature. Verdict: Trail is a better option even when outfitting with aftermarket upgrades.

I'll keep this thread updated.

I would run a trail, whatever bumpers / sliders you prefer, icon lift (whatever stage you can afford) and whatever tires you want. Id hold off on lockers until youndrive it, it already has the elocker as previously stated.

I'm in a holding pattern right now as a dealership comes up with a truck for me.

Round here (SF Bay Area) two dealers quoted me $37,865 for the Trail with Nav and KDSS.
