1st Gen 4Runner Interior - complete or mostly

I recently picked up a 1989 4 runner auto SR5. Body is rust free but interior is awful, missing back seat and passenger door panel, gauge cluster smashed and not working etc. Looking for an entire interior or significant portion of it. Prefer grey. Will buy whole wrecked vehicle if needed. If you have one or see one that has a good interior you can call me at 252.288.1541 I don't get on here real often and may not see a message.

Edit: I live in Chattanooga TN but would be willing to drive a few hours each direction.

Good luck finding the parts, 89 is kind of a special year for the 4runner, I don't know if it has the 88 and older style interior or the 90+ style or if it's a 1 year only thing (never looked much into it) xD. I have some 86/87 parts, and 89+, but all are pickups.

Thanks. I actually live in Chattanooga TN now and will update the original post.
I'm guessing it will also be harder to find parts with power mirrors and windows? I'll look at my interior trim code and manufacture date. If I'm changing an entire interior I'm guessing it wouldn't have to be the same but may cause wiring issues etc. I've been watching Copart and seen a couple wrecked trucks with clean interior they were just too far away to be an economical option. If I find the right combo, I could do a automatic to manual conversion too but I'm getting way ahead of myself there.

I updated my post so it's not confusing people xD.

Your title will have the correct year of your vehicle, the exact year it was made is in a production cycle, roughly half of the 89's would be made in late 1988. The 89 4runner I know is an odd duck, but I haven't really looked into them much either. I think some things are one year only parts but I don't know which ones or anything, so I'm not the best resource xD. It's odd because the 89 pickup had a body style update, but the 4runner kept the old body style 84-89.

As far as wiring, I think the interiors were pretty universal, like trucks with out the clock still had the connector to add the clock, same with AC (sub harnesses missing, ac amp etc). I know 86 into 87 there was quite a lot of wiring changes, not sure if 89 matches 87 or not though. I don't have an 88 wire diagram book yet, but I do have the 89 4runner and 87 and for the AC system it's the same as the 87.

Since your truck is missing the rear seat, does it have the plate thing that replaces it, or is it just missing? Pretty sure that plate has some value to some people, can't remember the story on them though.

Googling some pics of the 89 interior, looks like the 87-89 should interchange. The 84-86 will work too as far as the dash pad and gauge cluster cover (have to match each other). The newer short pocket style dash pad is thicker, but the mounting is the same. I have some interior parts (dash area), but that dash pad goes for a lot, if you can find a wrecked truck for a reasonable price with a good pad, it's almost worth it alone since they are so hard to find with out paying $400+. Like this one sold for $440 and has small cracks and a damaged air vent.

Another thing to note is under the dash pad and gauge cluster cover, there's part of the dash that acts kind of like a frame to hold things together. That is visible so you'll want to color match to it, so if possible, sticking with your orig color would be best as far as getting parts shipped, it's the whole width of the truck. Their prices aren't crazy, but shipping is.

Anyway, hopefully that's some solid good info you could use. Like I said I have some interior parts, but not enough for a complete 4runner. 87-89 4runner and 87-88 pickups should have the correct interior for the dash area. The seat stitch style changed just about every year, but if you're not going for OEM correctness it doesn't matter much. Good luck on the interior hunt.

Thanks ATCFIXER.
that is good info. I knew 89 was weird because the truck body style changed before before 4Runner. I haven't spent too much time on interior yet because I have plenty to work on mechanically and will just keep an eye our for interior parts nearby for now.
