Any Honda techs out there?
I am doing a side job on a 1995 Prelude and I was hoping to find out if there is anything tricky or any odd tools needed to take of the intake. He has a good vaccuum leak coming from the mating to head area and I just want to replace the gasket.
I have to drive 70 miles to help out a friend but want to know what tools to bring. He is out in the sticks and I don't want to go tool shopping out there if I find I didn't bring everything I needed.
Any help or a list of tools/sizes or anything irregular, please let me know.
I am planning on doing it this Sunday.
Thanks

I don't even know. Owner knows absolutely nothing about cars. Just "its a 4 cylinder".
He does know enough to have a 4WD 4Runner though. He used and stored mine while I was upstate last year and got his own earlier this year.
I'd rather work on that.

bring wratchet wrenches, some ramps so you can get under the car and a magnet on a stick. Also a flash light or two, some advil and bandaids, and a basic socket set with wobbly heads and a philips and a flat head screwdriver . Wratchet wrenches are gonna be the biggest asset though.

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I'll take the Advil and put on the bandaids before getting started as preventative measures.
I am also wondering, since I can't see the car before driving out there, if I will need other gaskets like EGR or thermostat. I am going at this blind and was hoping to get it done without running around town looking for another part. He is way out there in a little town. Not much nearby for parts.

Not too bad. I was a little freaked out when I tried to get some extensions and a socket on to the nuts on the lower side of the intake. No room and impossible to get fingers near the studs to start the nuts when I get to that point.
I totally changed my approach and went underneath, took off the oil filter and ta da, access. The hardest part was getting ALL of the old gasket off. It had broken into many pieces and was glued to the head. Lots of scraping mostly with a razor blade got it all off and I didn't use any glue. I told him I'd like to re-tighten it after 500 or so miles as it appears like the old gasket shrinked some.
We are both happy with the results.
He told me the dealer wanted $125 to do it so I thought it would be a piece of cake, maybe an hour and a half. I was wrong and he didn't actually get a quote from the steelership. He just said that to make me keep my price down. Its cool though. He is a buddy and he supplied the beers as well as BBQ. He gave me $120 and I was fine with that.
I should probably call the dearer to see what their actual price is so I can rib him a little about how much I saved him.

Yes, it was about 4 hours. I wasn't under the clock at all on this job though. I was hanging and drinking with my bud. With the air ratchet I could have shaved at least an hour off the job.
I'm glad you posted because I forgot to call the steelership about this.
