Wanted: second-gen 4runner

Ok, I sold another car that was preventing me from actively shopping for my next 4runner. Now I'm ready.

So, I'm in tuscaloosa, AL. I'm wanting to find something that is within a day's round trip. That means Atlanta, memphis, nashville, jackson (ms), maybe even the panhandle of fl. I just need it to be close enough that I can go to it, check it out thoroughly, and get it home again.

I'm looking to spend less than $5k on it. I also have a motorcycle for sale that I'd be happy to work into a trade, maybe even on a slightly more expensive truck, say up to $6k. I have a post on that here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f108...-miles-132953/

What am I looking for? Great question!

My perfect ride would be a 4x4 second-gen 4runner with a 5spd and a 22re. The engine is negotiable, but I'm pretty set on a 5spd trans... Unless it's an AT that was just installed/rebuilt very recently with full documentation. If the 6cyl engine, I'd want something that has had the headgaskets done within a reasonable amount of miles. I'd take an x-cab pickup too as a last resort, but no reg-cab pickups.

I'm absolutely not looking for a project, I need something I can throw my surfboards into and drive into the dark reaches of mexico tomorrow.

I'm ambivalent about lifts and big tires and stuff. If it has it, great, if it doesn't, that's just fine too. A stock 4runner has been more than adequate for my surf-trail driving needs in the past. I'm not ambivalent about mechanical condition. I'd much rather have a slightly banged up truck with a shiny 22re, new CVs and a ice-cold AC system, than a waxed-and-polished one that drives down the road sideways and is trying to grind the t-chain through the front cover.

I've got cash right now for the right truck.

You can email me direct at akshwuz (at) yahoo (dot) (com), as I'm not on this BB very much. Although, I'm finding myself here more and more as I hopefully re check the classifieds a couple of times a day.

I do have a good trade history on SVrider.com under the same username (psychsurf), as well as on ebay under username badfishak, if that matters.
