wanted: Chicago area yota expert.

im getting ready to do some mods to my 4runner. I am a fast learner but because this is my DD i cant really have the car underivable for more then a week. so i dont want to do some of these mods by myself. Im looking for some one to show/teach me about the drivetrain and suspension on my 4runner. i have a garage and a decent wrench set... i will bring in an air compressor and air tools to do the job if that will help. i just cant bring myself to pay a mechanic to do this and not know how it works... if it fails on the trail, i better know how 2 fix it. right? i am will to pay a reasonable rate. I dont mind installing the lift kit myself but i am probably re-gearing which im not entirely confident about.

also if anyone is interested in making some $ for welding on some sliders and/or making custom bumpers, that will be following shortly.

Maybe try off topic or other Toyota forums.

ummm i need to do some to mine as well. I am pretty good at doing , but i just think your going to ave to be a little bit more specific as to what exactly you are wanting to do, instead of just suspension and drivetrain. As for regearing, don't look to me for that. I am curious as to why you are wanting to regear though? I guess just try to reason with yourself of what is practical instead of overkill...

well i am probably going with the sonoran steel 1.2 kit for suspension. im sure i can handle that. im still trying to figure out if i need to regear for 33 inch tires. i have an auto V-6 and im not sure how the larger tires (and heavier steel wheels) will affect my performance. i think the only way to find out is to put on the wheels and tires and see how it runs. still looking for someone to help with a regear if i choose to do it.
