tire size question...

OK, I see the tire conversion chart, but I don't get it. How a 265/75R16 = just shy of a 32" tire and so does a 235/85R16.

If I'm reading the chart right, the stock 265/70R16's on my Runner = about a 30.5x8R16??

So if I'm looking to get about a 32" tire, which one would be better?

It all has to do with the series of tire. If its a 265/75 then it will be pretty tall, if its a 265/35 then it's going to be small. And I believe 285/70's are equal to a 32. Doesn't matter which one you get there both the same, its just one is advertised as metric and one is advertised as imperial.

For the OP, it helps to understand the numbers.

First number is tread width (roughly) in millimeters
Second number is sidewall height expressed as % of first number
Third number is rim diameter (measured at bead)
