Narrow tire decision, what should I run?

Hey guys,

As much as I love my BFG KM2's they are just too small (31x10.5).

So here is my dilemma, I want a tall skinny tire, I HATED the way my 33x12.5's looked.

I have narrowed my choices down to 2 tires.

The Super Swamper Narrow in 34x9.5 (may be too narrow and road manners are not great)

The BF Goodrich KM2 33x10.5

What do you think I should run?

Open to all opinions.

Also I have the option of using a 15" or 16" wheel, any reason to use the 15"s over the 16"s or vice versa?

-Brian

To me, I love the 15 best because of the size, but I'm not sure about you.

the LC is deceptive because it is on Volvo or Unimog portal axles..
i would go with the 33x10.50's

Yeah I have a set of 15's on there now but I also have a set of 16's (TRD Tacoma wheels, not the ones on my Tacoma I actually have another set I bought before I bought my Taco.) But anyway those are 16's and I was wondering if maybe going up to a 16 would make for a better ride or more available sizes.

Yeah I know, it's the only good pic I could find of the tires on a Toyota.

Why would you run the 33x10.5's?

You go in much mud? If so the 34x9.5 is going to shine.

I have the 33x10.50 Km2s on my 4Runner, and I love them. They fit stock but require a bit of pinch weld bashing, road manners are good as well. The only thing i hated about them is when they hit the rocks, they chunk easily and they furthest "lug" always rounds over. but other than that they're cool as hell... i'd definitely rock them again.

Toyo also has a 33x10.50 in their mud terrain now... a little more expensive than the km2s... but they run big.

Not too much mud, mostly trails.

That reminds me, this is some of the terrain I roll on.

But if you're thinking of SASing your 4Runner, I'd wait... unless you plan to put the new tires on your tacoma when you do the swap?

Forgot you ran 33x10.5's.

Wanna post up a pic or 2?

I've had my 31" KM2's off-road and can't really complain. They have done everything i've wanted and then some! I just don't want to be missing out on another brand of tire because I was blinded by my love for KM2's.

I'll have to check out Toyo's.

Why wait? I don't plan on running anything bigger than a 33 anyway. MAYBE and this is a big maybe, i'd step up to a 35 and if I do that, it wont be for a while anyway and i'd just throw the 33's on the Taco.

Here's some pictures of when they were brand new.

The rims are 15x8s 3.75 backspacing. and i have zero lift... it only rubbed a little on the pinch weld, flattened it and its golden now. The only time it rubbed was when i was loaded in the back and flexed it out.

Bald 33x10.50 km1 next to bald 31x10.50 toyo AT

I'm already planning an SAS on my truck. Im gonna be going with 35x12.50R17s i think. Im gonna go with a shorter shackle up front, with the 3" TG kit and try and make the 35s look big. ( i love the look of big tires on a small lift ) and i'll be converting the rear to chevy 63s, and putting a currie sway bar on the back. should be a good ride and nice flex!

I think the Super Swampers might be a bit extreme for the trails you do, terrible tread life even offroad. And you already love KM2's anyway! And your 4runner looks great wearing them too.

I like the look of Swampers, but man those are just so skinny. That pic of the LC reminds me of one of those corn harvesters that are super tall, but have really tall skinny tires.

Stockwell - lol the LC has Unimog axles... they naturally have a high ground clearance... thats why it looks goofy.

My only concern with any of the interco's is the tread life.

I would go with the BFG's and I plan to for my next set of tires. That could be a ways off because I drive like 6000 miles per year.

I've had 3 of my mastercrafts for over 6 years and the other 2 for a little more than 4.

my uncle got 50k out of his Toyo MTs... granted they were balder than bald. his tundra is a mall crawler as well, so they never saw anything but pavement.

With your terrain I would stick with the km2s.

Brian, your 33 x 12.50's looked that way because of your wheel backspacing. Mine don't stick nearly as far out as yours. With that said, mine do rub on the frame in the rear at full articulation. But only by a little. I might be able to prevent that with something as small as a 1/8" spacer if they make them. And my rear frame is plated. I am pretty sure it wasn't rubbing before 1/8" plate back there.

I really like my 33x10.5 KM2's. I have had them for about 10 thousand miles now and they are holding up great. I think the next set I get will be BF A/T though, maybe in the 33x9.5.

I read that the Super Swamper Narrow should not be driven on the road very much, but they do look awesome. I am sure they would do amazing off road.
