What are the best mud tires?? I have LT235/75R15. I was looking at BFG Mud Terrains and Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's. Any opinions??

 

Ive have a set of BFG M/T's and they are a great universal tire. I would take them over my current Mickey Thompson Baja Claws any day. What size were you looking at? and are those the only 2 kind you would get?

 

No those aren't the only ones i would buy those are just two i was looking at. Also i want some tires that do ok on ice. i know that mud terrains aren't good on ice but i want one that is adequate

 

Well no tire is good on "ice"... but i had BFG mts on my 4Runner and i take it up and back to the mountain, never gotten stuck once and this has been a record snow/cold year.

 

Before you buy a bfg i would buy a wildcat. personally similar in traction and way different in price

i like my bfg in the snow and mud you should go up to a 30X9.50 at least

 

Thanks, i'm not looking for tires that are "good" on ice just ones where i wont have and oh crap moments, like turning and still going straight

 

the stock tires are a bit small if you ask me. i went up in size and i am very happy. i would say look at the 31x10.5s or similar. i like my bfgs but all depends on what you plan on using them for, straight mud, rock, dirt, etc.... a lot of people like the mtrs but here in az i have had a bunch of friends say they wear very fast (over 50% in 3 months) but they are good tires just depends on the terrain. on a side note good to see more people signing on from NE thats where i have a lot of family.

 

when you have that oh #&$% moment on ice, there isnt a whole lot that is gunna bring you outa that besides maybe studs or chains, and MT's especially wont help.

 

Ya i think i'ma stick with 30sx9.5's there ok, i will be mainly driving on dirt, mud and pavement (daily driving). i currently have BFG All-Terrains and i hate them! they don't clean for crap. They came on the truck when i bought it last june, i don't know what the guy who had it before was thinking.

 

Another question i don't know if anyone gets their BFG Muds siped would that be an option for improving ice traction??

 

I was considering siping mine, but it would severely decrease tire life. I was going to pay a guy to do it but he refused the money and said he wouldnt let me destroy my tires at his shop, so thats reason enough for me. I guess it makes like chunks of the tires flake off.

 

ICE and TRACTION is not gonna happen with any tire stop asking

I would recommend Cooper STT's I have them currently, work great on snow and slick roads, mud, dirt, dry, everything...

Ice they do as good as my last car on new Blizzaks, still crap... it's ice

 

oh, and a lot of tires have "sipes" from factory, not the same as a cut every 1/4" but better for the tire

 

In the end it comes down to the driver, ive been doing alot of highway driving lately so i have a set of 31" bfg A/ts on, i recently went to my hometown and went wheeling with some of my buddys. Even with those tires i out wheeled almost all my freinds who run big M/ts. Decent tire + Common sense goes a long way. No tire can stop those "oh crap" moments from happening

 

dayton MT's come with the holes for studs a lot of people have had good luck with our snow

 

People have some very mixed opinions about MTR's in mud - depends on what kind of mud probably.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the BFG - I mean is BFG really saying that they struck upon some magical formula 20 yrs ago and that technology is STILL better than anything they could come up with? Yeah, didn't think so.

My next tires will likely be 255/85-16 Trxus MT's

 

if you want just a mud tire than go with the superswamper bogger or a everyday my go with the bfgmts
