Imperial versus metric tire sizing?
No this is not a "what tire size can I fit" topic.
I recently purchased a new set of tires, and simply stayed with the stock 31" size. However, in my search I've seemed to notice that if a persons vehicle came with 31's, they stick with Imperial sizing(ie up to 33's). Same with Metric, if they came with 265/75R15's, they up to 285/75R15.
Why is that? If the size is being changed anyways, why is it so uncommon to see someone with stock metric sizes switch to Imperial, and vis versa. After all, 265/75R15 is virtually identical to a 31x10.5R15, 285/75R15 = 32x11.5R15, etc.

its personal preference... some americans liek the metric system some dont... there is no set way for each person to view it... i think they both make sense in their own respects.... my truck came stock with 195/75/14 tires.... i currently have 31x10.5x15 tires on it
some people jsut buy what tires the tire company says to put... and many places wont put non stock tires on due to liability reasons... most consumers just figure the sales people know what they are talking about
personally i odnt liek the metric tire sizes, because they get confusing... in inches they us inches, but metric tire sizes use millimeters, percentages, and then inches...

the percentages is what gets me. and you pretty much need a calculator or a piece of paper to figure out the metric size. Unless you're good at realating metric sizes to other things, but I personaly don't think about everyday things in mm's or meters.
