Goodyear MT/R

What do you guys think of the MT/R's? Pros? Cons? Durability? Expected mileage for a set? I want a good all around tire for mud, hills and rocks

I had a set of mtr's and they were great for rock crawling in the lava fields where i live. really tough tire!
But i had to sell them. i regret letting them go to this very day.

I ran a set of non kevlar mt/r on my old Dodge diesel. I put on about 15000 miles on those tires before I sold the truck. They still looked new. I drove a fairly even combination of in town, on the highway, and gravel roads. They were more noisy that my buddies Toyo mt's. But I really liked the tire. They balanced well, and felt solid on the road. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I had someone tell me they weren't that much better than all terrains in mud. Not sure how that's possible, but maybe look into it.

iv got a set of em in the 35" flavor.. awesome tire IMO.. not much road noise.. do good in snow with the pressure dropped, does well in the sand rocks and dirt.. not so well in mud, but if i wanted something to preform in the mud id get swampers. im only at about 3000 miles on my set, but a friend who works for amreicas tire (also known as discount tire) ran a set of 37s on his 1st gen p/u and then put them on his runner when he got it.. when he sold the runner he had about 30,000 on them and they were still in decent shape. i think he said hes seen them go 50,000 in the smaller sizes with proper rotating and well maintained air pressure.

when i bought my runner it had 36 inch bias ply super swampers on it. i traded a co-worker for his 35 inch kevlar MTR's. they have a very sturdy sidewall in the rocks. they also ride like an A/T on the street which is very nice. they handle the snow very well. In the sticky northwest mud they slick up pretty fast, compared to my old swampers but hey, i don't spill my coffee in the way to work.(trying to balance a 36 inch bias ply is impossible)

in conclusion, they are a great all around tire, but if you are hardcore in the mud and trees, you cant beat the swampers!!!!!

i am never satisfied though!!!!! the next set of tires i want to try is a set of skinny's. i think they look killer on older trucks. 35x10.5 swamper bogger radials baby!!!!!!!!!

I doubt you'll find many reviews yet on the new MT/R's with Kevlar. IIRC, they've only been out a month or so. I went to my local Goodyear dealer to see a set, but all they had was the new Goodyear Duratrac's and Kelly TSA's.

I believe the MT/R's with Kevlar just came out this month. So there's probably only a couple reviews out besides in magazines

i found this review which i think u should check out.... AT"s couldnt possibly be anywhere close to these according to these MT's. I just wanted to see how the tires hold up as far as durability and rock/on road since i have a great mud performance review for them.

the MTR is discontinued!!! the kevlar is supposed to be replacing it. so if you buy a set and ruin one your pretty much SOL. i was kind of shocked when i talked to goodyear and they told me that they stopped making these tires.

He's referring to the old MTR. They still call the new one MTR but it has kevlar and a new tread design.
