go ahead an dgo 5.29s. and you have to consider, Scuba has a tacoma 4popper which has more HP then our 22re's. so if hes happy with 5.29s and 33, with more HP then you, your gonna be pumped with 5.29s and 33s.

While I do have a bit more power then a 22RE, I bet that with all the weight I have added the power to weight ratio between his truck and mine would be pretty close..

Well, im basically looking for better aceleration and something thats gonna pull 33's or
35's with no problem.
Im not usually playing in the mud, but when i do its best to use 4LO if i need 4WD.
With my stock 4.10's and 33's, 4HI doesn't like to pull them in a bind...
If i ever get in ruts, its just best to put it in 4LO and dont even bother with 4HI.
So i think ill be happy with 5.29's.
I just wish i could soup up my 4banger some without voiding the warranty i have with Jasper Engines.

From what im hearing, 5.29's are a good gear from 33's to 40's. But from my personal experience...I couldn't tell you.

5.29/ or 5.71

Ok so i am a new 1990 toyota 4x4 truck owner. I have alot of questions which majority have been answered in some of the posts that i have read. But one that has yet to be clarified is regarding the gear ratio's i am so confused so i would appreciate some light being shed on this issue with me. So my question is main difference between a 5.29 and a 5.71? I've read somewhere that the only thing with 5.71's is that they tend to break cause the teeth in them are too thin? i have just recently got some 33"x12.5 hankook dynapro's mt's. So on the way home there is this steep hill that i gotta climb and ya i hit second on the steepest part of the hill and was on third most of the time till the road flattened out. So question is 5.29 or 5.71?

Regarding the strength of 5.71's.

Also, you're gearing choice depends on what you plan on doing to your truck later.
Do you plan on going 35's? Do you plan on going larger than 35's?
If you plan on 35's, go 5.29's. If you plan on going any larger than 35's, go 5.71's.
Realize though, if you go with 5.71's you're going to be revving the engine very high with 33's.

I agree scotty at addicted is amazing best Person I've ever dealt with and he absolutely knows his stuff. The only bad thing ive heard about 5.71's from a guy that runs them is they tend to destroy crush sleeves alot

5.29 vs. 5.71

Ok so i am a new owner of a very much used and abused 1990 toyota 4x4 pickup 22r. So i have been doing some research and found that by adding ring and pinion gears you can add some power to get up that hill, and i got one hill that just kills me right now. I just got some 33"x12.5 hankook dynapro mt's on my truck and it didn't become any easier to get up that hill. So one article that i read said that by adding ring and pinion gears you can get some much needed power heading up hills. Now the question i have is am i gonna use a 5.29 or a 5.71 the only thing i know and want to confirm is they said that using a 5.71 can be costly cause its been known to crack since the teeth on the gears are thin. So some clarification would really be appreciated. Thank you

dude sorry alright i don't really understand everything being said on there.....thats why i was asking if someone can go into depth or break it down easier....and i was just asking if that was true what they say about the 5.71's breaking due to the gears being thin....and is there a problem if the engine is revving high with 33"

Hey anyone have any suggestions or advice about using a 38/38 weber carburetor and are there any differences in power or performance with the 34/34 and the 32/36? which would best suit a daily driver and some off road......

Re-read

Taken from the 1st/2nd sentence of the 3rd paragraph of the link that Scuba provided...

I've read on the internet that 571 gears are weak....and that 410 is strong. After researching this, I found the exact opposite to be true.

As for the carb - don't know!

I read this thread with interest and I did not see anything on Gear Failure. Some years ago there were a number of magazine articles written about gear failures due to high gear ratios in Toyota trucks. A 4:56 has a 15%, a 4.88 has a 25% and a 5:29 has a 50% greater chance of failure then a stock 4:10 gear ratio. The articles went into detail why.

I run 4:88 TRD / Toyota factory gears, Gear Type posi units and Mobil 1 Gear Oil with 31's or 33"s and I have run this combination for over 25 years (including racing my truck) with out a failure or problems.

As a suggestion-Just do your research before spending your hard earned money.

I can get 5.71s as well. They just aren't listed on the website. I have A LOT more product than what is listed, so if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call us.

My truck is just like bojangles, i have 33s now and am happy with them dont plan on going bigger. I guess i have stock gears not sure but they pull the 33s okay but i think the 4.88 would pull that much better. The main thing im wondering is is that all there is sling the new gears in the rear n go, r do you have to regear the front diff to the same gears or regear the tcase r anything. lol i have no clue, im trying to work on this truck more and more so i can learn about it.
