Finally pulled the trigger - BFG Muds coming...

Looks REALLY good. As far as the flares go, leave them in place. As you know, I don't care a bunch about the appearance of my truck, but the MT's not only pick up mud and fling it every where, they pick up rocks like crazy. The past week in Utah has been hell on my paint job with all the rock dings. Anyway, glad you made the choice for the BFGs, you won't be sorry. I'm still trying to find something that will challenge these tires. Maybe the run this weekend with the boys in AZ will get me in over my head.

No worries Mike, it is good to offer advice when I can. Glad things are working out.
You will want mudflaps. Wide ones. Not sure if you could see it in the pics that I posted, but I have big, huge flaps on all four corners. If I don't the sliders are bare in a month or so.
No file pics of my fender trimming since I last updated them. I found it best to remove the hard plastic liner that starts at the bottom most fender holes up to the next set. Then replace it with more flexible plastic.
Regarding picking up tires, my parent's have a long gravel driveway. I spit rocks for a week after I leave their place, but it is pretty cool. Some times I have to stop and pick them out of the tread so the tires ride in balance again.

My driveway WAS gravel. Then the workers moved all the gravel when they started grating and building the new road. So now I have a day-old asphalt street on one side of the house, and a nice mud driveway on the other.. For some reason I don't get the rock dings.... I hear rocks hitting the sides... but no chips/dings. Guess i'm just lucky!

Looks good! I will be going that route this spring once my 31's have had it! I'm going with a 2" BL though so I'll be set up for the swap one day. I've seen Luke's with a 2" and it looks good.

Well, I beat the tar out of my pinchweld which helped considerably with the little bit of rubbing I had.
When turned and compressing the suspension, I was getting some contact with the front bumper. It is still at stock height since I have a grileguard. I wasn't going to go to any excessive lengths to raise it up since I plan to do a custom front bumper in the future.
So today I decided to do a little trimming. The black stuff is automotive trim - meant to conceal cut edges.
OK, let me have it. Look OK? Look like crap? Keep in mind, it's a mod meant for function - and it does look better in person !!

Looks pretty good
When I first looked at it, I didn't know what you did so I guess that's a good sign.
Is that trim going to stay on there or is there a chance it will fall off and dangle around?

The trim has metal inside it and has been pinched to the bumper/valance with pliers. It seems to be on pretty tight. At the first sight of it coming off, I'll lay a bead of RTV inside it so it doesn't go anywhere. I don't want any dangling...

How many miles do you have on the tires so far? Hows the road noise?
#32
I have only about 1000 miles on them so far. The noise is really not bad at all. They have a little growl to them compared to my AT's, but not bad. They are not as loud as I thought they'd be.
So far, I am extremely happy with the wheel/tire combo. The backspacing I was worried about has been a non issue - except for the trimming. The wider stance has made the Runner feel MUCH more stable. This combo has added over 4" to my total width (outside of tire to outside of tire) over my 32's.

About the rumble, be sure to rotate them when you're supposed to. If they start getting louder that might mean they are cupping. mine started sounding louder a couple weeks ago and I knew I had waited a little long between rotations. rotated them and I think they fixed themselves. all I'm saying is, they cup really easy, especially if they're run on the road 75% of the time.

Those rims and tires look good.
One thing I noticed the BFG MT 33x12.50's are a little taller than the 33x12.50 mud kings XT's I had. I am currently geared at 4.56 and the power seemed fine with 33's. I have 32x11.50 BFG AT KO's on right now. I am tempted to goto 35's but I definately need some 5.29's and a 2" BL for it first.

Call me dumb, but haw can you tell if a used truck has a BL on it. I see a lot of odd gaps on the underside of my 2nd gen. The guy I got it off fo also had Superlift decals all over it and I know it dosen't have the 4'' kit or shocks or anything. Could I have had a BL the whole time and not even known it? If someone could measure a gap on a stock 4Runner (2nd GEN) and let me know so I could compare that would be great.

32s?
I'm waiting for my rugged trails to die, pretty close now and am getting new wheels and BFG M/Ts. Is bumping up to a 32 worth it? Is there any significant gain on clearance, which is my desire in the end, or should I just work on some way to get enough clearance to run 33s and wait? I have stock height in the rear and 2" lift on the front which basically evens out the ride.
