okay here it is: i picked up some almost new studded tires for my pos daily driver. i only paid $40 for four and wasnt worried about the studs because my plan was to remove them. ive done it before on used up studded tires and its pretty easy, but aparrently its really hard on almost new tires. so far ive tried a small slotted screwdiver (thats whats worked well in the past for me), needle nose pliers, needle nose vise grips, and small channel locks. none seem to work very well at all. paying someone else is not an option, please help, any good ideas or smart ass comments will be appreciated, thanks.:pat:

 

Hey dude, I feel your pain...

I did this once as a "favor" for my father-in-law. WHat I did was take a regular flathead screwdriver, grind the width of the blade down a little, to make it taper some on each side. Then, I put it in the vise a bent about 1/8th of an inch of the tip to somewhere between 30-45 degrees. This gives you a nice, narrow, slightly hooked tool to get under the stud and pop it out. Its still a pain in the a$$, but it does work.

Try sitting on a small stool or milk crate, preferably in the shade with your favorite beverage, place the tire on edge in front of you and start digging out the studs.

thats some damn good advice, thank you, i will be making my very own de-studding tool. that should work great. my hoopty's tires are wearing thin...ill have to get a half rack and get on it.
