What size lug nut did you use? I can't seem to find any that fit. I have the American Racing Outlaw I wheels. Did you have to get lugs from American Racing?

did you get them for a chevy with bigger studs?

 

They came with the tires when i bought them on Craigslist, and yeah they were on a early 90's suburban IIRC.

 

I had American Racing wheels, recently stolen. They were this style, except 6 lug of course. They fit perfectly on my truck.

I used standard type 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts like these. Found at just about any autoparts store.

BTW, there's no difference between Chevy and Toyota as for as wheels are concerned. If they fit a 6 lug Chevy, then they'll fit a 6 lug Toyota.

Anyway, yeah i know that they fit, just the stud holes are too big the studs have a lot of play. Does that make sense?

 

Yes, I believe it's because they're hub, not lug, centric. Mine were loose in that manner too. Once the lug nuts are tightened down, that all goes away.

 

They will still shake around when i hit bumps and stuff though. i need a lug nut that will really snug those holes up.

 

I never had that problem. I tightened them to around 100ft.lbs. and the wheels stayed perfectly still regardless of the terrain. The taper at the bottom of the lug nuts will center them and the wheel, taking up any of the the side to side slack, and holding the wheel steady. I never even had a lug nut come loose on me in the entire time I owned them. Those particular rims had a tapered area where the tapered lug nuts would seat themselves. So if yours have a similar design, then that should apply. It's all about the taper, the lugs never actually make contact with the rims during operation.

 

Mine are also tapered. That's good to know. Thanks for that info! So, you just use regular lug nuts? Or were yours different? Sorry for all the questions.

 

Hell, I don't know what they call them technically, standard or regular or whatever. I just know they looked identical to these, and the package said 12mm x 1.5 lug nuts. The 1.5 refers to the thread pitch, not their length if that's what you're wondering. They should all be long enough to accomodate whichever lugs they'll fit on. They were plenty long enough IOW.

 

seems like any reputable tire and wheel shop should have the correct lug nuts available, usually $1-2 each.

 

Found the lugs thanks guys! But the auto store wants $3.50 a lug!!! I'm gonna see if I can't find them online for less than that.

 

I got Outlaw I's on my Pathfinder (previously on a Tahoe) and just used factory acorn lugs, haven't had a problem yet and this is actually the second truck I've had em on.

they have a bunch of different types/sizes and are way cheaper!!!

i bought 24 lug nuts for my 88 4runner and i don't think i paid over $8/9.

im pretty sure mine are american racing, but i use a 19mm socket whatever that translates to. i got the lugs when i bought my procomp rockcrawlers

 

Hey, nice long bed there 87hillbillyoter! I got one of those too(88 with a 3VZE though). 19mm is pretty much exactly the same as 3/4". But the lug nuts I was using took a 13/16" socket. Which is more common for aftermarket lug nuts.

No, I'm pretty sure those in particular WILL NOT work. Though I believe the factory acorn style, like wd21_sr5 says, will. They need to be tapered at the end.

I was wondering if you knew the style number for these wheels. I have a set but one is unusable and cant find a number to try to obtain a new or used one for it. I have already done numerable searches with no luck and ran across yours here. Any information would be a big help. Thanks

I'm tempted to ask where you got them. As one of the ones that were stolen off my truck was pretty badly cracked near the bead. I was able to seal it with silicone to keep it from leaking.

But I've moved on to something better at this point, so I guess I really don't care too much.
