265.75 R16 BFG ats

Hi
I'm just about to upgrade my wheels from ultrasoft 31/10.5/R15 Pirelli ATs (on original equipment 15" alloys) to 265.75 R16 BFG ATs on 16" steel rims. Now Chris Scott's book "Sahara Overland" states that the 4runner sits well if fitted with 16" LandCruiser rims.

Now before I rush out to buy the BFGs can anyone tell me about the rim sizes/widths and if a 16"x8" rim will replace the original rim? I'm not sure about the original rims size - I think they are 15"x7" but am not sure. I just need to know if they will fit or not.

If any one can give me a definitive answer on this I'd appreciate it.
Rgds

Sorry I know nothing about your question, but your post caught my eye.

From reading your sig, you have built a nice off-road vehicle. I just wanted to make sure you knew that the BFG AT, while a great tire, does not perform all that well off-road. I had them for almost a year and was not happy the way they became slicks in the mud and snow. A couple of weeks ago, I switched over to BFG MT. Again, don't get me wrong - the BFG AT's are sweet tires - but I'd hate to see you make the same mistake I did. Just my $0.02 worth.

-Cheers!

Gene - thanks for the heads-up:

I do most driving to and fro from work etc and a bit of offroading at weekends. I need a good road tire - especially in the wet - and a good/not great off road tire (I'd buy MTs for serious offroading especially with all the clay type muds we get in the UK- but I hear they wear too fast for road use),
so MT or AT I still need to know about the rims and whether they'll fit or not.

BFGs cost SO much in the UK! Basically £560 for 4 x 265.75 R16 BFG Ats on white steel 8 spoke. This is why I'm playing it cautious of course the MTs look fantastic but I want something a little more stable on fast tar!

I'm not sure about the 16s fitting the OE size is 15x7. As for tires that wear well on road and perform off. The A/Ts rock. I'm 2WD and recnetly have been mudding a bit simply because of the BFG AT's those tires treat mud like no ones bussiness. I know the M/Ts wear really fast on the road and that is why I stayed away from those, and they A/Ts are pretty quiet on the road and like I said before, they hold their own really well off. Just my .02, I hope someone chimes in soon and lets you know about the wheels and can give you that definative answer your looking for.
