Roof Baskets

I've been thinkging about getting a roof basket for my 4runn so I can carry some gear while camping leaving the inside open for sleeping. Any how I don't care for how high the baskets sit so I was wondering

Would it be possible to fab up 4 brackets that would allow it to to sit lower. So the basket would rest on the 3 ribs that are part of the factory roof rack (either resting on or just slightly above), using the locations where the factory rail are as the connection point.
So something simliar to this:

It's kind of sad I haven't been able to sleep because this idea is running though my head and I needed to get it out. It sucks too because I have to up at 5am.

I'll have a better design tomorrow or is there something like this already?

I took off my surco recently because the mounts are
1) too high
2) got rusty

So I am going to be making my own. Im actually just going to try to first bend some steel and then re-enforce it where it needs it. The stock mounts are dinky.
