What are some of the things you have bought over the years to make a camping trip better?
Whether it is a cooking accessory, something for the tent such as a pad, list it here.

I have gads of camping (both car and RV camping) and backpacking equipment that I have been building up since the early 80s.
But some stuff is just to big to take along in the rig.
A lot of it was from my days of using two different tent trailers when I could pack just about anything I wanted too.

Now I am condensing what I am going to take along for a weekend trip or a week.

Just ordered two items today from Cabela's as seen in my other thread in this section on The Pett system.

That one looks like it will work out great for me.
They have a much bigger one shown below, but with the limited carrying space I have, I would have to pass on it.
For those who camp with a truck/Tacoma/Tundra, this would fit it.

Panzy car campers. I take everything I need with me in my pack and use whatever I can find.

 

I find a hotel reservation makes my trip much better.

 

girls are nice. oh wait, stuff we've bought? my rig, water, blankets, and TP

 

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a tent yet....

Food, water, flashlight, multi tool, knife, sleeping bag, pillows, cooler, stove, matches, and a bunch of other stuff.

well i wouldnt use a tent, we sold our trailer after last summer, i sleep in my 4runner now

I like to stay warm, and I haven't slept on the ground in years. A nice sturdy cot with a thick foam pad makes me snore load enough to chase away the elk!

 

X2 if you can't fit it all in a pack then it's not REAL camping. Just my opinion...

 

Nah!!! I love backpacking too, but camping and backpacking are not necessarily the same. I love to do both, and if you have younger children you learn to do both.
For camping I like to bring a French press for coffee. Mmmmm......coffee.

 

Yeahhhh, that would be backpacking like I use to do a lot back in my younger days.

Below is me from around '89 or '90 up at Mt. Rainier, Tamanos Creek camp, about a 4 mile hike in from the trailhead.



But many of us like to have our rigs along too when camping to explore old fire roads and other stuff.

Plus I would never leave my current rig at a trailhead, to many thieves out there.
Only if I had a beater to park along a trailhead would I get back into backpacking again.

 

this that make a better camping trip for me:
high altitude
lots of trees and wildlife
my 4Runner with the seats folded down for me to sleep
peace and quite
and of course the essentials.

 

Well in all honesty all I feel I would need if were talking car camping is:
TP, a way to cook, sleeping bag, the usual supplies (knife, multitool, flashlight, etc) and a girl. I think that works..

 

anyone want to trade a 4 runner for my pickup? lol, sleeping in a 4runner has got to be better than sleeping in the cab, or worse, the bed, when its snowing!

 

I tried to sleep in the rear of a 1st gen and 3rd gen. I be to tall and I am only 6ft! I rather put a camper shell on my truck and simply insulate it with carpet and have a lowgrade heater in there (shut off after I go to sleep) as the bed is bigger.

I tried sleepin inthe cab of my T100 and although bigger and the bench seat helps I am still to big and wound up sleeping in a truly uncomfortable posistion either way.

 

I find for a longer stay a little (18"x18") rug to put in the tent is nice, gives you a place to step in without getting mud from your boots where you sleep and such.

Also, those little green bug repellent burning coils beat being covered in DEET if you are just sitting around.

lol. my only problem with a camper shell is that i have a roll bar. now i know id be able to trim a shell and make a short one that fits up to the bar, then goes down, but it would look funky. plus i hate working with fiberglass, its nasty. lol.

 

Yea, rollbar makes it very tough.
