need Help on a few small things

OK so a little but ago i bought my 87 4x4 with a 350 swap in it... the truck works but doesnt really work if you can catch what im saying...

first i had carburetor problems so i got a bigger carb, but then i had a vacuum leak. and then a over heating problem, i still have a battery problem, and as of right now im questioning if I have a blown head gasket because i have a bunch of really tiny bubble in my radiator but im not sure if that is because of the new radiator.

so what i was wondering because i still havent gotten the carb tuned yet because of all the other problems, but because we have custom headers in these trucks, should we have a certain amount of glow coming from the headers at idle? cause i know glowing headers are usually from too lean or too low of timing.

i think i have the timing set a +4 degrees right now and i think that is too low but not low enough that its causing the headers to glow.

anyone else have slightly glowing headers?

also if there is any advice i could get on a v8 swapped toyota, im new to these trucks but i have always loved them
