350 valve tick

350 valve tick
so i recently put a remanned 350 in my runner and the builder says its good to go. i have about 500 miles on it now. Should i do a valve adjustment???
the valve train is a little noisy..
i have hydralic lifters and i thought there was no adjustment necessary.
i hear that it might just be my lo-rise valve covers on the z28 valve springs. is that true?
i'm affraid to crank down on my new valvetrain!!!!
any advice??????

I had the same rocker problem. Take your valve cover. With the rig running do one side at a time with a 5/8 socket turn one at a time loosen one till you hear a tick and tighten till it stops making noise then turn another 1/2 turn do that to all of them and you are done all but the mess if you have a old valve cover cut the top off so the oil all stays in.

Sometimes the new lifters will settle in plus with cam break in a good valve adjust will be needed.
You can do it the way CBR said but I have a cleaner way if y'all would like!
First take all your spark plugs out. You will be cranking the motor by hand and this will make it easier.
Next remove the valve covers and get a 5/8 socket and ratchet.
Place one finger on the intake pushrod of a single cyl. Rotate the crank clockwise(normal rotation) and feel the pushrod and rocker come up (valve open) and the down. When the rocker stops rotate just a few degrees more to make sure its down. Both lobes on this cyl are on the base circle and are ready to adjust. Tighten the nut while rotating the push rod with your fingers. You will feel the pushrod start to drag and get tight. You want just a slight amount of resistance on the pushrod with hydraulic lifters. Adjust both on this cyl and then repeat with the other 7 cyls. This also works for solid lifters with the exception of using a feeler gauge between the rocker and the valve.
I should also mention that if your not using poly locks you should be! They are cheap and easy to use and will stop the rocker from ever coming loose again. Poly lock are just a longer rocker nut with a set screw. If you don't have em'...get em'!
