I'm getting close to finishing my swap and about ready to mount my Mercedes oil cooler. I plan to mount it up front below the radiator.

I've seen some guys mount it in the engine bay on the driver side inner fender. This doesn't seem like it would be the most efficient for cooling.

What are everyone's opinions/experiences with this?


Also, I've seen some guys use the factory fittings and run rubber hose with hose clamps for oil lines and some convert to AN fittings and have a hydraulic shop make hoses. From what I've researched you can hit around 100 psi for oil pressure. Do the hose clamps work out or is it worth going the AN fitting route? Or are there other options I'm not aware of?

 

I actually used the stock Mercedes oil lines. I have the oil cooler mounted upright next to the radiator. The upper line needs to be shortened but haven't found a place yet to crimp it. I wouldn't trust an worm clamp on this. If it fails you have little time to shut down the engine

 

I used rubber hose the first two times and I can tell you from experience its a really bad idea. The oil will eat through the hose. I ended up getting pre-made1/2" hydraulic hoses and its been mint for three years now. I bought swivel connections for the oil filter housing and force threaded them in there. No leaks.
