JKGen, I went with stainless braided lines from Summit with re-usable connectors and ran an aftermarket oil cooler. It doesn't leak, way cheaper to replace, and I haven't had a problem.

Dmarsh, I like your throttle cable set up. That's what I would have done if my cable was that long, but it's only about 10" out of the firewall.

I just came across this thread. Great work and great story. How't he project going?
I'm considering a similar project. I there any chance you might have the overall length of the OM617 also the height from the crankshaft centre to the top and bottom of the engine would be very useful.

Thanks tarenja,
The project has ben pushed to the back of the list for a while, house projects and work have moved to the top of the list. I do plan to move forward on this real soon, I have been collecting some parts and materials over the past month's and I am in the process of building a tube bender right now. I can get some dimensions next week when I am back in town, any thing else I can help with let me know.

And did you move the oil pick up towards the front if the engine when you added the section?

ajrhodes,
I can get some pictures next week, if I remember right the notch is about 3"
but then I also added about 1 1/4" to the depth of the pan, as for the oil pickup I rotated it 180 and added a 1 1/4" extension to match the pan

Great Thread

I have been studying and collecting parts for this swap on a genII 4runner for 3 years and this is the best thread yet. I have a ?. If I understand correctly you moved the tranny back 4" with out lifting the body do you think if you had put in a 2" body lift could you of gotten 4.75 to 5"? Thanks in advance Jody

Jody248,
The limiting factor with moving the motor back is the fire wall, and still having the clearance to remove the valve cover, without modifiying the fire wall the most I could get is about 4", I do not think a body lift will help any, but you could take a hammer to the fire wall and massage it a bit

I was wondering if you have any prints of the parts you made. I'm a machinist and I want to do the same swap in my 87 4runner

Dubjunk1e,
I do not have any drawings, every thing was done one off, but if you search this site and over at superturbodiesel.com forum you should be able to find what you need, also check out www.doomsdaydiesel.net.
If there is any specific measurements you need let me know and I will try to get them for you.

Nothing new on the truck other than wheels and tires and moving it about 1100 miles east to my new location, but it is a coincidence that last week I cleaned up the truck, spent some time figuring out where I left off, ordered some parts to get going on it again, should be up and working on it in the next couple of weeks, will post up dates as I do

I have started fabrication of the rear mounted fuel tank, have not really done enough to post about, between my job and traveling back and forth between homes (California & Texas ) I haven't had any time to work on the 4runner recently, hopefully I will have some time starting in spring.
