Toyota has been making V8 engines since the '60s in various configurations, and AFAIK they've all been done in some fashion.

Give us some idea of what result you want, how much you want to spend, how much you're willing/able to do yourself.

If you want to stay Toyota, a supercharged 5VZ will be the absolute easiest and cheapest swap into your 90 pickup. If you're hell bent on a V8... well there are better engines than Toyota has to offer.

I don't know what you define as "much tweeking", or not. I think my 1UZ swap is fitting very nicely, but modifications have been necessary.
Here are the highlights. Most Lexus/Toyota V8 engines are in RWD cars, and most of the 4WD applications have the front diff on the LH side. AFAIK, the only exception is the FJ100 land cruiser, but the rear transfer case output is also offset to the RH side, which is not ideal. So you can't really use any engine/transmission/transfer case assembly from one donor vehicle.
There are options to change that. The T100 case can be adapter to a RWD auto trans pretty easily. Or there are a couple aftermarket adapters to use the old gear-drive tcase (which means you can use aftermarket gears and/or dual cases).
The UZ is the most common family to swap. This was available in 3 different displacements, with aluminum and steel blocks, with and without VVTi. All are a decent option.
http://northwesttoysllc.com/1uz-2/ is probably the most one-stop-shop source for parts to install one. You can buy everything you need from him to make it a bolt-in swap. He can probably do the whole swap for you.
