1UZ vs 2/3RZ size

So I found some photos of the overall size of a 1UZ, it pretty much fits in a 26" box, doing a rough measure of the 2RZ in my '82 it looks like the 1UZ would have plenty of room and is shorter which would mean more front diff clearance. I can't remember seeing anyone doing a 1UZ in a 1st Gen. Did I miss this in all my searches?
